Jayden didn’t so much as knock as he blew in through the front door. “We don’t have long until they realize I shut off my phone and the GPS tracker on my vehicle.”

“Who’s following you?”

“That’s not important,” Jayden said. “Skylar’s in trouble.”

A knot formed in the pit of my stomach. That was not what I was expecting to hear.

I thought we came to the office to discuss the fact he was dating my sister and intended to marry her.

“What do you mean she’s in trouble?” He needed to elaborate. It was just the two of us. No one could overhear us like they could at the bar. “Explain yourself, now!” I snapped. He was testing my patience.

“She’s with Angelo DeLuca.”

“Who the hell is that?” I asked. “And why the hell is she with him?” I yanked my phone out of my pocket.

Was I supposed to recognize the guy’s name because I didn’t?

“You can’t call her. She doesn’t have her phone on her. She left it at my place.”

Jayden exhaled a heavy breath, ran a hand through his hair, and shuffled his feet toward the desk.

He looked nervous as hell as he handed me her cell phone.

“Shit.” She wouldn’t have gone anywhere without her stupid cell phone. She was tied to that thing like it was another limb. “What do you mean she’s with Angelo DeLuca? Who the hell is he?”

“DeLuca is a rival mob boss of Don Ricci. They’ve been doing business together, but Enzo believes DeLuca is stealing from him.”

“What does any of that have to do with my little sister?” Skylar worked at a café. She had no dealings with the mob.

“Don Ricci sent Skylar in as a mole to find out what’s been happening.”

“What? Are you crazy? You better be joking.” I stepped closer, closing the distance between us.

I was ready to pound the shit out of Jayden.

What the hell trouble had he gotten her involved with?

Jayden may not have been the cleanest guy, but it didn’t seem right that he’d lead my little sister right into the hands of the enemy.
