Chapter Eleven
Jaxson
I stormed into the bar. My feet pounded against the floor with my fists clenched at my sides. I didn’t wait for an invitation as I tore around behind the bar, face-to-face with Jayden.
I grabbed him by the shirt lapels, giving him the opportunity to explain himself before I kicked his ass.
“When were you going to tell me that you’ve been screwing my sister?”
I hadn’t quite meant for it to come out like that, so crude and condescending, but I was pissed.
They were engaged, and he hadn’t so much as had the decency to show his face anywhere with my sister.
If I hadn’t seen it on Skylar’s stupid social media account, I wouldn’t have even known she was engaged.
Did she not plan on telling me?
Shit.
Was she pregnant?
“Did you knock up my sister?” At least then he’d be doing the honorable thing, marrying her.
“Whoa!” Jayden shoved me backward, knocking my hands away from his shirt and chest. “I didn’t sleep with your sister. Chill out and keep your voice down.”
His eyes flinched.
Anyone else wouldn’t have seen it, but I’d been in combat with Jayden.
I knew that look anywhere.
What the hell had he gotten involved with? “What did you do?” I asked. I ran a hand through my hair.
“Don’t worry about it,” Jayden said. He turned his back to me.
Where the hell was Skylar?
I hadn’t seen her in days.
Usually, she snuck inside late, well past midnight. I hadn’t been thrilled with her behavior, but she wasn’t my responsibility. Skylar was an adult. Though sometimes I thought she could use a little growing up to do still.
I couldn’t just ignore the fact that they were engaged. “You’re marrying my sister. If you didn’t knock her up, then you have a lot of explaining to do.”
I hadn’t even known they’d been dating. Skylar had only been in Breckenridge for a short time.
How long had she known Jayden? Days? Weeks? I doubted that it could have been months.
“I’ll come by your office in an hour. We shouldn’t leave at the same time,” Jayden said.
He’d never been particularly paranoid. “You think someone is watching you?”
“I know it.”

I drove to the office and waited for Jayden to show up. It was a Sunday, so the guys had off, and I had the place to myself.
I wasn’t sure that Jayden would stop by as promised, but the sound of a door slamming outside jarred me back to the present.
