Chapter Twelve

Jayden

I hadn’t wanted to involve Jaxson. He was the biggest pain in my ass in existence. The truth was, I hadn’t forgiven him for kicking my ass at the Blue-Sky Resort when I’d been with the off-gridders and taking hostages.

I hadn’t been on board with the plan, but the off-gridders had planned on going with or without me. At least I could make sure no one ended up dead. Plus, I had to keep Emma out of trouble. Little good that had done.

“Where the hell is my sister?”

“I don’t know,” I said and threw my arms up into the air. “That’s what I’m trying to tell you. Angelo DeLuca has her.”

“Tell me everything. Start from the beginning,” Jaxson demanded.

I quickly recanted my plan and how Enzo had been one step ahead at the party, making Skylar the main attraction. “All I can surmise is the guy who I hired under me has been secretly working with Don DeLuca. Why else would the shipment details always match exactly?”

“Who’s your associate? What’s his name?” Jaxson rubbed his forehead. He looked pissed as shit.

Not that I blamed him. I’d royally fucked up.

“Benjamin something. I didn’t catch his last name.” He hadn’t given it, and I wasn’t asking.

The color left Jaxson’s face. “Do you have his contact information or know how we can reach him?”

He wasn’t answering his phone. “He’s not responding to calls or texts.” Not that I expected him to respond to me. I was on the outs, and it was any wonder they hadn’t left me dead in a ditch somewhere.

“How long has Skylar been unaccounted for?” Jaxson asked.

“Seventy-two hours.”
