Chapter 11

Maverick

“Scar, stay here with Dice and Tank. Help clean this shit up.” I step over a broken chair and curse under my breath.

They went too fucking far this time. When Dani called me barely able to speak, and told me to get here now, we came as fast as we could. My chest constricted and the tightness almost caused me physical pain as we raced through town. I would kill anyone who lays a hand on my sister. Not just kill, torture. I want to make sure they suffer. I don’t even really know Tanner, but the thought of her being touched by those greedy bastards makes me full on homicidal. Maybe it’s because it’s my best friend's sister, or maybe it’s the fact I haven’t slept one single night without dreaming of her in the past two months. What the fuck is wrong with me?

My phone rings in my pocket. It’s Ivan.

“What?” I bark. I don’t need his bullshit right now.

“We have a problem out here. We got two fed’s snooping around. They want to talk to the owner.” Ivan’s nasally voice is riding my last nerve right now.

I pinch the bridge of my nose. “Alright. I’ll send Dom.”

Ivan is the manager at Lace. A strip club owned by Dom and me. It’s the nicest one in this area and I’m pretty damn proud of it. We built it from the ground up. It makes the club a shitton of money and of course, serves other purposes when the urge hits.

I walk over to Dom who is talking with Maxine. “I need you at Lace, feds are there.”

He nods but glances over at Tanner.

I pull out my phone. “I want them all at the clubhouse. Dani, mom, Tanner. Maxine too.”

“Yeah. I agree. They need to stay there until we figure this shit out.” He sighs and rakes a hand through his hair. “This isn’t what I wanted for her. She doesn’t deserve to be caught up in our bullshit.”

I nod as I dial my mom’s number to fill her in.

Dani and Tanner are sitting at a booth. I walk over and slide on the other side. “Dani, y’all are coming to stay at the clubhouse. I called Mom and let her know she’s coming too. I’ll send Romeo and a prospect with you to get your things.”

Tanner picks at her nails nervously, so I reach across the table and grab her hand. Her red eyes darted to mine. “You are coming too. Dani can go grab your stuff when she’s done with hers.”

“But I need to...” she starts to argue.

I cut her off. “No, you're coming with me. I need to know exactly what happened here today. Dom has to oversee some club business, but it shouldn’t take long.”

I realize I’m still holding her hand and I clear my throat as I let go.

“Got it Dani?” I ask as I stand from the booth.

“Yeah.” She looks over to Tanner, “Just text me what all you want me to grab.”

“Okay, thanks.” She smiles at Dani and a weird sensation hits my chest, but I shake the feeling.

“Let’s go, Vix. You’re riding with me.” I placed my hand on Tanner's back after she stood from the booth, and I led her outside to my bike.

I sling my leg over and reach back to hand her a helmet. She stands glued to the sidewalk, staring at my bike.

I smirk. “First time?”

“Huh?” She blinks. “Oh yeah…. I have never ridden one before.”

“Nothing to it. Put this on.” I handed her the helmet and she shoved it on her head. I had to hold back my chuckle because she looks so damn cute. Did I just say cute?

She swings her leg over the seat and scoots close to me. I can feel her breasts at my back and her thin arms slink around my waist.

“Hold on tight and just lean with me,” I say before revving up the engine.

She jolts when we take off and it makes me smile. We rode through town. She did surprisingly good. About halfway through, she finally loosened her death grip. Her hands felt warm over my stomach, and I have to admit, I really wanted them to snake beneath my waist band and release some of the sexual tension I’m carrying.
