“Who says I’m done with you?” she touted back to him.
He opened his eyes and raised a brow at her. “I’m going to need a minute.” He couldn’t help the laugh in his voice.
“No, you don’t. You just need to engage your wolf. Trust me, he’ll have no problem bringing you up to speed.” She let out a small chuckle, and despite the situation, Gunner had to admit he felt…
At ease.
Happy.
“Right. Well, if I knew how toengagemy wolf, I wouldn't be here.”
Cate scooted closer to him, close enough her silky hair fell on his shoulder. He stole a glance downward at her, taking in the sight of her beauty once more.
Mate.
His heart skipped a beat.
How have I lived my entire life without her?
How did I not know she existed?
The feelings, the thoughts were foreign to him, but he embraced them.
For in her presence, it was hard to ignore them all.
“You need only give in to the desires and the wants of your wolf. Hear his pleas. You must want to let him take over. Give him permission to do so.”
“If it was only that simple.” He closed his eyes once more.
“It is that simple. You have to let go of what is holding you back.”
“Nothing is holding me back,” he whispered.
Small hands touched his face gently, pulling him away from his thoughts.
“You do not have to lie to me. I know what it is like to feel out of control. To feel like losing it means losing yourself.” Her nails traced his jaw, and her eyes fixated on his lips.
“You will not hurt me. You are in no danger here.”
Her words somehow stirred the wolf within, and he was not full of rage or lust.
But instead, he pined.
The surge forth was not painful, not shocking.
It feltgood.
To be understood.
To be wanted.
And when Gunner looked into Cate's glowing eyes, he understood for the first time that perhaps he and his wolf wanted the same thing.
