“This, my friend, is what I’m talking about.” He smiled from ear to ear as he handed him a bottle. Gunner took a swig, not caring for labels.Beer is beer,he mused as the liquid made its way down his throat.

A disembodied voice came through the speaker system loud and clear, alerting the patrons of the night to make sure they’d filled out their name tags and forms, and reminding them the event would start in just under fifteen minutes.

That’s when he saw her.

She stood off to the side, her long fingers tracing up and down her pale arms, long black nails starkly contrasted against her skin. She looked out of place next to the group of girls he’d seen before entering the bar. She wore a dark blue tank top, along with a black skirt that came down to her knees. Knee high black boots covered her legs, her long hair, jet black except for the one vibrant silvery streak in the front, hung to her waist almost.

But it was her eyes that caught him.

One green and one blue.

The crowd started to find their way to their seats, the bar erupting in chaos as the voice came over the loudspeaker once more and instructed them all the event would soon begin.

The DeLux Cafe morphed into a blur of beer and superbly attractive singles as soon as the buzzer hit, and for once Gunner’s mind was not fixated on his need to shift.

Instead, he fixated on the talisman in his pocket.
