Cami: OMG! Did the Lawson twins eat her alive?!

Me: No, that’s the thing. They hit it off great. Lauren even offered her a job at her school.

Cami: Wow, I’m impressed. What else?

Me: Dani invited him to brunch back in Annapolis when she was finally ready to go home and see her parents.

Cami: I can’t believe I missed the big reunion.

Cami: Maybe just for moral support?

Me: No, something was weird about the little touches I picked up on.

Me: Drinks when you get back?

Cami: You betcha.

Me: Well I need to get ready. We are going to Lucky’s for dinner and karaoke.

Cami: And…now I want margaritas and tacos from there. Thanks a lot.

Me: *wink face* Anytime.

Me: Tell the professor I say hi.

Cami: Will do. Tell Zach the same. Love you.

Me: Love you too!

“That was a cruel joke you played on your sister. You know that, right?” I ask Zach once he and I are alone at the table at our favorite dive bar, Lucky’s.

Kyler, Zach and I discovered this place not long after we moved into the house. We all have a love for tacos, tequila, and karaoke. And that’s where their joke on Dani comes in. When we brought Dani here tonight, she apparently didn’t know that tonight was karaoke night. Her eyes nearly popped out of her head, and the color drained from her face when Scott got on stage and announced they were ready to start karaoke. Dani has a fantastic voice, but it’s been years since I’ve heard her sing.

Earlier tonight, Kyler and Zach tricked Dani into agreeing that she would get up to sing if they did. She easily agreed to it. I had to fight back the laughter as she thought she’d won; they’d played her so well, having convinced her that they didn’t do this regularly. I have seen these two perform songs such as “Islands in the Stream,” “You’re the One That I Want,” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

The joke was on her when they got up on stage and had the crowd pumping as they sang “When the Sun Goes Down” by Uncle Kracker and Kenny Chesney.

“Hey, she got up and sang, didn’t she? And you heard her—she said she hadn’t felt that alive in so long. So ha!” A smug smile spreads across his face as he sits back in his chair, crossing his arms. After a moment, he reaches for his drink from the table and sips the last of his margarita. “And look she’s even dancing,” Zach says while looking around for the waiter to order another round.

I look over to the makeshift dance floor where, just moments ago, Kyler led Dani, and my eyes go wide at what is unfolding in front of me. If I had had a drink in my hand, I definitely would have dropped it.

Would you look at that? I so should have called that. There was no way those flirty looks exchanged between them earlier were just my imagination.

“Yeah, babe, I don’t think dancing is the only thing on in her mind at the moment.”

Zach finally turns to see what I mean by that only to see our best friends wrapped up in each other, and yep, his tongue is totally in her mouth. Sweet Jesus, they keep this up, and they’ll be fucking in the middle of the bar.

“What the…” Zach leans forward on his chair. He looks over at me in shock before looking back at his sister and Kyler again.

I lean over to Zach and whisper in his ear, “Go pay the bill.”

“What?”

I raise my eyebrows at him. “I said go pay the bill. Come on—I want to spend our last night at Cami’s, just us. And clearly…” I nod to the couple just a few feet ahead of us. “…they should get some alone time.”

Zach cringes, and with the tequila flowing through my veins, I let out a loud snort.

Zach goes off to pay the bill and returns just as Dani and Ky are making their way back to the table.
