All in all, it was a fun lunch with women who had come to mean the world to me. My relationships with them were another success for me, bringing a smile to my face.

Laughter, shenanigans, and girl talk had been precisely what I needed.

As Topher and I left a few hours later, I didn’t miss the way Stacy kissed him bye and told him that he better call her this time or she’d hunt his ass down.

He kept looking over at me as we walked to the car, his cheeks still red. Eventually, I took pity on the man. “Don’t worry. I won’t say anything. I’m happy for my friend. Just don’t break her heart.”

Topher relaxed, nodding. “I think I’m more likely the one to be hurt. Stacy is a force to be reckoned with. I’ve never met anyone like her.”

“She’s a good one. I’m happy for you both then.”

I bumped his shoulder as we rounded the corner, smiling at him. When I turned back, we both stopped at the sight in front of us. Fury boiled over in me, and I let it rise to the top. Topher already had his phone out, probably calling it in or for backup, but I was done waiting on the sidelines.
