I giggled. “I was just thinking how I never thought I’d be involved with someone in the mafia. My life has turned out a lot different than I imagined it.”
“Hmm, I kind of know what you mean, but I can’t say I’m not happy about it, especially since it includes me, too.”
“Your selflessness is huge.” I laughed, enjoying the quiet moment with Wells.
“Hey Kitten, can I ask you something?”
“Of course.”
“How do you see this all playing out?”
“What do you mean?” I asked, turning a little so I could see his face.
“Us? Are you just with the five of us now, or do you think it will be something permanent?”
“I want it to be permanent. Each relationship is different, but I know I need all of you in my life. Do you… do you not think you can be in this type of relationship long term?”
He smiled, calming my racing heart. “I’ll be wherever you and Roe are, Kitten. I just wanted to make sure I fit into yours.”
“I need you, Wells. I can’t profess anything big yet, but I’m getting there. I know I feel for you deeply, and the thought of not having you makes me want to punch things. I thought my life was meant to be one way—the way my mother told me it should be. I’m learning it can be whatever I have the courage to dream it to be. Just as I never saw myself being in a relationship with someone in the criminal underground, I never thought I’d be with five guys at once, either. My life is full of adventure, love, and family now, and I’m honestly so happy with how it’s turning out. Jude, Immy, and Levi are the kids I’ll never bear myself, but who I love with my whole heart. Motorcycles, fighting matches, tattoos, and even kinky sex clubs are so far outside what I should do, but I couldn’t imagine not doing them now. You’re all a part of me, your lives have become my life, and I want to weather it with you until the end if we can.”
Wells slammed his lips down to mine, heat, and passion fueling him. “You say you can’t express big feelings, and then you go and say all of that. To a man like me, that means more than empty words any day. Never stop kicking me in the balls if I need it, Kitten.”
“Deal.” I giggled, loving all these new sides of Wells I was learning. He was more than he gave himself credit for.
“What I need to know, though, what is this kinky sex club you speak of?” He grinned, his hands smoothing over the back of my shirt as he waited for me to answer.
“Maybe I’ll take you there one day. We’ll consider it a field trip.”
His eyes heated. “I’ll hold you to that.”
I leaned up for a kiss when the dogs barked, making us both jump. “Fucking hell, Fort!”
When he barked again, Wells sighed, dropping his head to mine. “I better see if they need to go. Fort’s still training. Stay put.”
I rolled my eyes but nodded. He jumped out, walking around to the back, and I heard their excited huffs as they were leashed up. I turned, leaning against the headrest, watching.
He had them both ready within seconds and walked them over to a small grassy area, leaving the trunk up. I couldn’t see much, the darkness of the space keeping things hidden. Closing my eyes, I started to fall asleep as I waited for them to return. When I heard three pops a moment later, I bolted up. Had that been? Was I imagining things?
Silence met me, and I convinced myself I’d dreamed it. Except, when I heard a whine, it jerked me out of my denial, and I fumbled for the phone.
“Please, please, answer….”
I opened the door slowly, bracing myself for an attack, a canister of pepper spray in my hand as the phone rang.
I saw the prone body at the same instant it clicked over. But I heard nothing. I felt nothing. I was nothing.
The phone slid from my grasp, clattering to the ground, and I just stood there.
“Please let this not be real,” I whispered, finally taking a step. Then another. Then another. Before long, I was running.
Dropping to my knees, a whimper left my lips as I frantically looked around, trying to figure a way out of this.
If only I could go back in time.
