I looked down at Zara. She’d drifted off. I carefully stood up and situated her in my seat. She moved around but didn’t wake up. I walked over to my guys.

“We’ve got a nosy one back here. He wants to know who we are and how we know Zara. I don’t like it. The less they know, the better. Is you know who going to have people there to take them off our hands?”

Griffin nodded. “He said he would. He said he’d keep your involvement in this operation out of the reports, just like he did before. I agree. The less they know the better. What about Zara? She seems to be really cut up over that other doctor getting killed.”

“Fuck, I wish I knew. I heard her telling him she loved him. Jesus, I fucked it up and lost her. I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

“No way she fell in love with that man in less than two weeks. She was head over heels for you. You must have misunderstood her,” Jinx told me.

“I heard it plain as day. I don’t know. I think we just need to get her back and then I’ll decide what to do. I won’t leave her alone to deal with this, but I’m not going to push for us to continue our relationship. Not if she doesn’t feel the same.”

“Brother, just take it a day at a time. Right now, let’s get home,” Payne advised.

I sighed and took a seat next to her. For the rest of the flight, I sat and watched her fitfully sleep. I didn’t know what I’d do if she no longer wanted to be with me.
