I nod, understanding what he’s saying and where he’s going with this. Félix cannot allow himself or anyone else within the family to look weak. Not with the threat of Dimitri Savary out there. Once we have Désirée back, we can focus on taking the motherfucker out.
“We need to move some of our focus toward Emerald Isle. We’ve been keeping close to home,” I mutter through clenched teeth.
“Send a few men to that bar,” Félix commands, pulling Madelaine closer to him. “I want any information they come across. I don’t care if it’s the simplest thing to the most important one. I fuckin’ want it.”
“You got it, boss,” I say, pivoting on my heel and heading for the door. I come to a stop right outside Félix’s office. Standing not five feet away is some frat boy wearing a pair of slacks paired with a dress shirt, tie, and vest. His hair is done in a way that screams he’s a pretty boy. “Can I help you?” I demand since I don’t recognize him.
“I’m Gaylord Conway and Désirée DeLancy’s boyfriend,” the frat boy says, introducing himself.
Excuse me. Did he just say he was Désirée’s boyfriend? No fucking way. There’s no way this dumbass would be with someone as beautiful as Désirée.
“Who the fuck did you just say you were?” Félix demands coming up directly behind me.
“Gaylord Conway,” he states again. “You must be Désirée’s brother.” Sticking his hand out, expecting one of us to shake his.
Not going to happen.
“I know who the hell you are, and you can leave,” Félix snaps, not shocking me in the slightest. “This isn’t college anymore. My little sister isn’t going to be with someone like you.”
“Someone like me?” Gaylord mutters, clearly taken aback by the fact he’s being told to leave.
“We don’t know you. My brother told me a while back that my little sister was dating someone, and I looked into you myself”,” Félix sneers, stepping forward. “I don’t like what I see in front of me, and I didn’t like what I saw on paper. There’s no way I’m letting you near my sister, let alone asking her to marry you. That will never happen. Especially considering you’re nothing but a wimp-ass punk living off daddy’s money and had a side piece while seeing my sister.”
What the hell?
My rage starts to take hold, but I keep myself in check.
This motherfucker has the balls to come in here, and Désirée is still missing. If I don’t find a way to release my pent-up frustration, I’m going to lose it.
