Chapter Eight

Skylar

“A date? You’re asking me on a date?” I ask him once more, unsure I heard him correctly. The man who has repeatedly told me over the last few months that he doesn’t date. That he doesn’t take women out. And now he’s asking me. He’s standing here in the middle of Dark Sinners asking me on a date.

“Is that a no?” he asks, his tone more demanding this time.

“I … I’d love to go out with you, Justice.” Damn, just saying his name makes me hot. I don’t know what it is about him that I’m so attracted to, but I find myself falling a little more each day.

“Good. Then let’s go,” he offers me his hand.

“Now?”

“Why not?” he asks.

“I don’t know. I mean, now is fine,” I tell him sliding my hand into his. He nods his head and leads us out of the club as Rodney throws us a little wave and a smirk.

We step outside, and Justice glances around as if he’s looking for someone. When he seems satisfied, he leads me to his waiting car. The man passes him the keys before he opens the door for me, and I slide in.

“Where are we going?” I ask, curious.

“Do you trust me?”

“Of course I do,” I tell him truthfully. I do trust him. He’s slowly breaking down all of my walls and settling into a place I wasn’t sure of, but I know he wouldn’t hurt me.

“Good girl.” That’s all he needs to say to make me content. I like when he calls me a good girl, and to some, that might sound degrading but not to me. I love it.

I settle into the seat as Justice drives through the city. I watch the lights and people pass us by until he pulls into a restaurant and parks the car. I look up at the sign and smile.

“How are we getting into this place? I heard the waiting list is months long,” I tell him before looking over at the smile on his face.

“I tend to get what I want,” he replies before exiting the car and coming to open my door. I let him help me out before he leads me toward the door. He says a few words to the hostess when we enter, and just like that, we’re being escorted to a table in the back of the restaurant. It’s quiet, more private than the rest of the place.

“What did you say to her?”

“Nothing important. I gave her my name and what I wanted,” he tells me. To some, that may sound cocky, but that isn’t the way he is.

“And just like that, you have a table,” I say with a grin.

“Just like that.”

“I’ve never been here,” I tell him as menus are thrust into our hands. Justice orders some wine for us as I go over the menu.

When the waiter returns, I let Justice order for me, seeing how I have no idea what I want. Then we fall into casual conversation.

“So, you own a boutique.”

“I do. I love owning it. I can do with it what I want, and there’s no one to tell me differently. Christy works with me. She’s super smart when it comes to fashion,” I tell him, although I feel like this is a boring topic.

“Rodney seems to like her,” he adds before taking a drink of his wine.

“She seems to like him too.”

“That’s almost too bad, seeing how no one from the club dates.” It’s like ice water has been thrown on me and doused any fire between us. I knew going into this not to expect anything but the more I’m with him, the more I can feel myself falling for him. When he asked me on a date, I thought it meant more than just club business. I thought it was because he genuinely liked me too. Maybe I was wrong.

The rest of dinner is awkward for me. I let my mind wander to places it probably shouldn’t, but I feel a little lost after what he said.

Justice pays the bill and ushers me out to the car, but before he opens the door, he grabs my face in his hands and kisses me. I wasn’t expecting it. I wasn’t expecting anything from him after the way he talked, but heat flooded my body from the searing kiss.
