Chapter Eighteen

The next few weeks, they’d gotten into a routine and slowly learned about each other. Most importantly, she was learning to trust him.

It was happening faster than she thought it would since she’d never really trusted anyone but Kyla. But little by little, she was giving him parts of her, and pretty soon, he’d have all of it. She held back because she couldn’t get rid of the fear that everything would be taken away from her as it had always been before.

Jenna grabbed her phone and was headed toward the elevator to go down to the office when her phone rang.

“Hello.”

“Is this Jenna Stuart?”

She frowned. “Yes, who is this?”

“I’m a messenger. You’ve got a package in the lobby you have to sign for.”

“All right. I’ll be right down.”

A minute later, Jenna stepped off the elevator and caught sight of the messenger by the doors to go outside. She couldn’t understand why he looked familiar until she got within a foot of him, and he grabbed her arm.

“Hello, Jenna. Do you remember me?”

She balled her hand into a fist, ready to deck him if she needed to. “Yeah, you’re that dirtball Billy’s friend. What do you want?”

“Billy would like to see you.”

She snorted. “Oh, I’m sure he does.”

“He can’t come to you since he is laying low. You see, there are several warrants out for him.”

“Good, he needs to be put away.” She bit back her cry when he tightened his grip painfully. She hissed. “Fucker, let me go.”

“No, you bitch. We’re going to walk out of here.”

“And if I don’t?”

He pulled the jacket away from his body, and that was when she saw the gun. “I’ll start killing.”

A shiver of unease raced down her spine. “You’d really do that? Because you know you’ll be caught, and a pretty boy like you would be extremely popular with the guys in prison. Think this through, dumbass. You’re risking your life for his vendetta. Is he really that good of a friend?”

She saw the indecision in his face. She started to feel elated that she was getting through to him until she saw Travis and Nia come through the door. The last thing she wanted was for this asshole to shoot them.

“I’ll go with you,” she said suddenly.

He looked at her suspiciously but kept a tight grip on her and started walking them toward the front door.

Travis and Nia stopped. She could tell by the look on Travis’s face he was going to start asking questions.

“Jenna—”

“I’m sorry, Travis, I can’t talk now. I’ll be back soon.”

“Now, I know for a fact your daddy wouldn’t like you leaving the building.”

She could feel the butthead shaking and getting agitated. “I asked him for permission.”

They started toward the door again, but two burly men blocked them.

Shit. She turned around and saw several men advance on them.
