“Savannah, from the salon downtown.” She waves a hand dismissively. “You probably don’t know her because she’s younger than me. But you might remember her brother Luca. He’s in the FBI now.”
“Oh yeah. I would have sworn that Luca and Jackie Garcia would end up together. High school with them was like non-stop verbal foreplay.”

“Speaking of people from high school, did you hear that Wade Guidry is coming home?”
“Yeah. He deserves a fucking parade for losing his leg like that.”
“He did receive a Medal of Honor and a Purple Heart.”
I nod.
“One thing you might want to do is extinguish the rumors Eileen Perry is spreading about you and her.”
“What the hell is she saying?”
“That y’all are going to get married.”
