Quinn

I wake up to Amber’s sweet curves pressed to my body. I open my eyes and find her blonde hair spread like a halo on the pillow next to me. My heart thumps strongly, beating out a love song for her. I realize I’ve never felt more at peace, more certain about my life or my future.

I’m gonna marry this woman. Today. Which means I’ve got to get out of bed and get things moving. I extricate myself from the covers without disturbing her. Then I pull on some clothes and grab my phone. For what I need to get done today, I’m gonna need my sister’s help.

I’m about to call her when I realize she’s already standing in the kitchen.

“Christ, Madison, you scared the fuck out of me.”

She smirks. “Morning to you too, big brother.”

“What are you doing here so early?” I ask. Then I pour myself a cup of coffee, thankful again for the programmable feature on our machine. It’s the simple things in life.

“I heard a rumor and I wanted to come talk to you about it before work. Normally you’re already out with the cows this time of day.”

I grunt and take a sip. “Roe is giving me the morning off. Now that he’s finished with this semester, he has time to do more out here.”

She nods.

I roll my eyes and sit at the kitchen table.

She comes and sits with me.

“There are so many memories in this room,” I murmur.

Madison smiles wistfully. “Yeah. I miss them both.”

I swallow thickly around the lump in my throat. “Me, too. I suspect we always will.”

“But we’ll be making new memories here. Roe and Callie will be starting a family soon, I imagine. Harrison and Birdie probably won’t be too far behind them. Now you and Amber.” She stares at me over her coffee mug.

I know she’s wanting me to acknowledge my feelings for Amber. But all I can think about is that my sweet angel could be pregnant with my baby right now. “I want to marry her,” I say.

“No shit.”

“Mad, I’m serious.”

“So am I. The rest of us have been talking about you for weeks. How you’ve been stomping around like a giant toddler whose toy is too high for him to reach.”

I chuckle. “Whatever.”

“What are you going to do about it?”

“Already done. She’s in my bed right now.”

Madison’s face scrunches up. “Gross. I do not need details about my brother’s sex life. I meant about the marriage. You have to get a license and then wait three days.”

“Three days? What the fuck for?”

“Texas law. I don’t know. I own a trinket shop, I’m not a lawyer. Call Blake.”

That definitely delays my plans, but doesn’t change things too much. “I need a ring.”

“She needs a dress.”

“Right.” I scrub my hand across my hair. “I don’t know how to plan a wedding.”
