I managed to get to my feet and limped slowly across the street, to the forest on the other side. From there, I started to follow the road away from the warehouse, but I stayed hidden in the trees, knowing someone could discover my absence at any time.

A roar of motorcycles came in the distance and I fell to the ground as they rounded the corner. I stayed still, even as one skidded to a stop. Lying on the ground, I didn’t dare move an inch. I didn’t even breathe.

The biker who stopped looked in my direction, as if he was studying the trees. Then he slowly got off his bike and walked toward me.

Shit. He saw me. I stood up and tried to run, but with my hurt leg, I wasn’t running fast. The biker caught up to me in a matter of seconds and he grabbed my arm.

I spun around, ready to fight, but he caught my hand before I could hit him. “Tina?” he said, flipping back the visor of his motorcycle helmet.

I could have cried with relief. “Doc?”

He pulled me into a brief hug before he looked me up and down. “You look like you tried to wrestle a mountain lion.”

“Try a barbed wire fence.”

He winced. “You’re tough, I’ll give you that. Let’s get you back to the bar before Talon tries to hunt you down himself.”

“How is he? Have you seen him?”

“Not yet. Axel said he was in rough shape but his only priority was finding you.”

A lump formed in my throat. “It was really bad, Doc. There were three of them and he held them off the best he could but he was barely conscious the last time I saw him.”

“I know.” Doc put my arm around his shoulders to better support my weight as he walked me to his bike. “There’s no way he would have let you go if he was capable of walking.”
