And then, I hadn’t been able to stay still. Slamming out of my chair I marched over to the table beside ours, grabbed her by the hair, and jerked her head back. Getting in her face I said, “You say one more word about my daughter and I’ll make sure you’ll be breathing through a goddamn tube.”

“I’m offended that you would dare to bring that into an upscale restaurant.” She sneered up at me.

Snapping, I said, “My daughter is recovering from cancer, you stupid whore. And even if she was a transgender kid, as you called her, I would support her no matter what. Shame on you for being not only uglier than a two-dollar whore but meaner than a rattlesnake.”

“If that’s what you’re calling the sickness she has, then that’s on you for being blind.” The woman sputtered up at me.

The woman hadn’t taken me for my word. Oh no. So, I let the leash on my temper all the fucking way off as I punched her in the throat as hard as I could.

Seeing her falling to the ground with her hands around her throat, I nodded, then turned and walked calmly over to my man and my daughter, then sat back down gracefully.

Grabbing my knife and my fork, I started to cut into my steak. This is an upscale restaurant, but they really need to keep rift raft like that out of here.

I saw the owner of the restaurant walk over to the woman, then to us. I nodded at him and smiled, “Felix.”

“Darlin’, takes a lot for your temper to fly out. Want to tell me what happened?”

That was when a woman that had been sitting behind us practically shoved her phone in Felix’s face and said, “I got the whole thing on video. Started it when the woman said the first thing.”

Felix stood there as he watched the video. His face had started to darken. He was clenching the phone so hard that I feared for its integrity.

A man stepped up to us. The same man that had been sitting with the woman said, “She wants to press charges.”

Glaring, I said, “Press them. I’ll press my own.”

Luckily, we didn’t get thrown out of the restaurant for my behavior, either. Even though Felix would never do that because it just so happened that he was cousins with my bestie Shirleen.

Funny thing was, three weeks later, I was standing in front of Judge Salazar.

And wouldn’t you know it? He dismissed all charges when the woman’s criminal history was brought to light.

Who knew that the woman was actually on the FBI’s Most Wanted for robbing a bank seven years ago and killing four people?

And I was also handed the reward money that they had been offering of fifty thousand dollars for her being captured.

Her man had no clue. He had also packed up his house and his kids and had left the state three days later to places unknown.

And that fifty thousand dollars?

We used that as a down payment for a new build and ten acres of land that was only five minutes from the clubhouse. And it even had a pond.

Collins was the one researching which fish we could put in there so she and Gage could go fishing.

That next morning, with my hands around Gage’s waist, I held on tight. Probably a little too tight, but he didn’t seem to mind. Ten minutes into our ride, I loosened my grip on him and felt his body relax.

Well shit. I was so investing in those Bluetooth helmets. Today we were going on a run. I had argued with Collins and Gage about this. I had wanted to ride with Collins, but Gage had wanted to take me on the bike. Collins had thrown her hands up in exasperation when she said,“I’m riding with Rosa and Laci, Mom.”And that had been that.
