Chapter 6
Conleigh
“Please take the stage. Just one fucking time. Promise you, you won’t regret it.” Carter pleaded with me yet again. We did this dance at least twice a week. Hell, if I were being honest, it was more like we did this dance every time I worked.
“No, Carter. I’m not dancing, I’m not showing off what I got to a lot of people. I'll show it to the one when the time is right.” I again repeated the same freaking answer that I always give him.
Only I had a feeling that I have already met the man that I was destined to be with. Only instead of telling him, I didn’t. To be honest? I was scared.
I’ve never even liked a boy. Never went on dates. Never gave my guy a phone number. Hell, I’ve never even been kissed.
Carter scoffed, which was his norm, and then said, “And who is the one, pray tell?”
Shrugging, I said, “I don’t know. I haven’t found him yet.” No way was I admitting my feelings to him. No, those were for me and for me alone.
He looked murderous right then, and he growled, “Well, until then, get off your damn high horse, and get up on the stage.”
Shaking my head, I said firmly, “Negative.”
“So, who’s this right one you’re looking for?” I jumped and screamed. Pressing a hand to my beating heart as the voice that was right behind me asked with a low drawl.
Looking over my shoulder, ready to give him a stern talking to for eavesdropping into a conversation that he had no business being in. My eyes landed on that dirty blonde hair and those mocha-colored eyes I narrowed my own. “Gage, you big shit head.”
He looked down at me and said, “Answer me, Conleigh.”
I lifted one shoulder, as nonchalantly as I could muster, and said, “I’ll know him when I see him.”
Then shock me pink and color me purple. He said, “Well, consider me in the running.”
And with that, he placed a kiss on my nose and walked away. My entire world tilted on its axis.
Watching his behind the entire time, I sighed as I leaned against the bar top. Completely ignoring Carter and his grumbling as he walked away, something about overbearing bikers, or some shit like that.
“Girl, I don’t know about you, but I'd give up a year's salary to have that man in my bed for one night.” Star aka Lily said.
“Uh-huh. So would I. That man is sex on a fucking stick.” Pixie, aka Harriett, shook her head in agreement.
“He is that.” I sighed as I lost sight of him.
Lily got a look in her eye as she wiggled her eyebrows and asked, “So, how do you know the SGT of Wrath MC?”
Normally I wouldn’t have answered her. However, I’ve become close with these two women, so I told them. “He’s my neighbor. When I found out about Collins being sick, he stepped up, went above and beyond for us. He mowed our lawn while we were having her chemo treatments. He even saw how tired I was after working that double shift and her chemotherapy. He took care of Collins and let me take a bubble bath, then he stayed the entire time while we both slept.”
“Well, I was going to try and get the down-low on him through you and then ask if you were interested in him. But judging by that soft, dreamy look on your face, I’m totally backing off from him.”
Harriett had a wistful look on her face when she said, “I agree.”
“Thanks, ladies,” I told them and meant it.
“So, why won’t you get up on the stage? Honey, you would make a killing up there.” Harriett asked me.
“My mom had a revolving door with men when I was growing up. Besides that, I’m a virgin. When the right man comes along, he will be the first and only to see my body unclothed.” I said softly and only for them to hear.
“Respect that doll face. Respect that.” Lily nodded as she took a bite of her power bar.
“Wait a minute. If Collins is your daughter, how are you a virgin?” Harriett asked me skeptically.
Smiling, I said, “My sister didn’t want her. So, when we found out she was pregnant, she signed her rights over to me when Collins was born.”
