CHAPTER 4
Maxim
I grab my normal drink from the bar area and start to work my way back towards my desk. Halfway there, my motion alarms start pinging. I set up motion detectors at the warehouse site to let me know when the Moretti’s finally arrive.
With a smile on my face, I sit down. This should be interesting to watch. They think that they actually found me. That they’re here to put an end to everything. What they don’t realize is that it’s just the beginning.
I have about thirty to forty surveillance cameras installed all over the place and a few that are on the street leading up to the warehouse district. Normally surveillance cameras can be grainy, but I opted for a higher quality picture.
Four black SUVs slowly pull up. They’re the type that the president would use or someone just waiting for an attack. We actually own several of that kind. There’s a Jeep I can barely make out at the end of the line and it looks like Anna’s.
When they move closer, I could tell that it’s not Anna driving. The surveillance videos are better than normal but not enough to see who is driving it. I believe she’s here with them today. I actually hoped that she would be. I want to be able to see my girl.
I slam back my drink and lean back in my chair as all the SUVs park in a semi-circle. Lots of men get out and take point at different places around the vehicles.
This is more men than I would’ve brought personally. That must mean that all the siblings are with them. I pinch my eyebrows hoping that this doesn’t screw us later.
The Moretti’s finally pull up as Jax and Mason exit and then Anna and Colt follow. I relax a little seeing my beautiful girl.
Anna instantly looks around, it’s like she can tell something’s out of place. She starts to notice the different surveillance cameras, and then starts frantically looking around to spot them all. Yeah she definitely knows something’s up.
I grab my phone out of my pocket. Since they all seem to be distracted and all of the siblings are there except for one, it’s now time to put my plan in place.
“Hello,” Booker answers on the first ring.
“It’s time, they’re all at the warehouse district. They know something’s up, so I imagine we don’t have more than half an hour.” I return my attention back to the screen.
“Got it boss. It won’t be a problem, we’re already in position and have eyes on the target.” Booker doesn’t say anything else. He hangs up so he can get back to work.
Jax calls over the guards for a brief meeting. He still has a few men remain on point. Anna is standing back with Colt and Mason right by her side. They probably figured that something’s up that this whole setup was a farce.
I’m not denying anything, I do own the building. If I were to actually calculate I would imagine I own several thousand buildings and properties. This would be businesses, land, houses, apartment buildings, condos. Anything I could think of I bought at a lowered price.
And being who I am, I don’t want people to easily track me down. It doesn’t necessarily mean that I’m hiding something, it’s just for the safety and well-being of everyone in the property.
If someone knew that I owned an apartment building that housed multiple families and it just happened to be a rival gang, that apartment can go up in flames. There’s lots of innocence people that live there.
Real estate is where I make the most of my legitimate money. One day the Ivanov’s might go to everything legal. It’s just better to have that in place in case that day ever comes.
For the future generations the way the world is turning to shit. I would prefer that my family line doesn’t have to deal with a lot of this crap. My plans are to get them out of everything illegal, so that maybe my grandchildren can live a normal life, if I ever have children.
The last thought refocuses my attention back on Anna. She watches as the men start to take off in groups of three and four to do a full-scale search of the area.
It won’t take long till she realizes what I’ve done. I just hope that she can forgive me, even if she doesn’t, one day she’ll come around.
I focus my attention and the cameras back on Jax. I can see how pissed he’s getting. He has to know now, this is all set up. I just want to take a picture of this fucker and frame it on my wall. I’ll put it next to my sister.
The team starts to reconvene together in the middle. It took them only about twenty minutes to sweep the whole area. The smile hasn’t left my face the whole time. I haven’t even refilled my glass.
The Moretti’s and the guards start to load back up in their cars. I’m pretty sure that they’re going to keep a couple men behind for security, but they’ve all spotted the surveillance cameras. They’ll do it somewhere that’s out of place so hopefully we won’t notice them.
I watch them all as they leave and grab my phone off the desk. I sat it down after my last call.
“Hello,” Booker sounds breathless.
“Any problems?” I’m worried maybe I called too soon but they’ve had plenty of time to finish.
“None whatsoever. We have the package, and everything went smoothly. We’re heading back towards the house right now. When I get off the phone I’ll send you a picture.” Booker hangs up.
This was the best news I’ve gotten all month. I am literally just hours away from having Anna back in my house. I look back at the surveillance video and I can see one of the SUVs pulling behind a desolate warehouse. I didn’t hide all of my cameras out in the open.
I laugh as I realize how bored they’re going to be. This property hasn’t been used in years and won’t be used for decades more.
My cell phone chimes letting me know that a message is here. I quickly open it and start to cringe. I was expecting a normal picture, not a bloodied mess. I have to find out what happened later.
Now it’s time to forward this message.
