CHAPTER 28
Maxim
My chair screeches back as I stand up and scream. It’s been two days and we haven’t gotten any closer to finding Anna.
Both Jax and Booker quickly glance at me then look away, ignoring my outburst. This is probably one of fifty that I’ve had in the last two days.
I take out my phone, gripping it tightly. I try to relax my hand, so I don’t smash this one, too.
“Maxim,” Cruz purrs out my name.
“Where the fuck is she?” I switch hands holding the phone, maybe the other one won’t grip as hard.
“Where’s who?” Cruz laughs.
“I don’t have time for fucking games. When I get a hold of you, you little bitch, I’ll rip you apart.” I just wish the son of a bitch was right in front of me.
“She’s where she belongs Maxim, with Marco. There’s not a damn thing you guys can do about it. Watching this whole thing go down was better than getting fucked.” He starts to laugh as I hang up the phone.
There’s no way to get through to that man. The only thing I can do is get him in the same room with me. Then I’ll see if he still laughs.
He’s been faking everything all long. He didn’t have any reason to side with me, he did for his own personal enjoyment.
I look up at the ceiling and run my hands through my hair. Damn, I don’t know if it’s because I’m so emotionally involved, but I just can’t figure out how to save her. Booker and I have never had this problem before.
“Call a meeting. Get the Moretti’s in it. I want all the families except the Mexicans.”
“Got it,” Booker says as he punches a message into his phone. “For when?”
“One hour,” Booker snaps his head in my direction, but doesn’t say anything. He knows it’s useless to argue with me. He gets up quickly from the couch and goes out of the office to get the meeting ready.
“Let’s go over to the conference room,” I say as I look at Jax. “You might want to get your brothers here. You’ll probably want to sit in.”
We both make our way over to the conference room. Jax calls his brother Mason to let everybody else know.
The Moretti’s get there before anybody else does. Me, Booker and Anna’s four brothers sit around the conference room table waiting for the Italians and the Irish to get here.
Both families walk in at the same time. They pause and stare between us, they realize the Moretti’s are here sitting with me. I know that Jax had a meeting a while ago and basically asked for their protection.
It’s only the head of the families. I don’t want too many people in here, not sure who to trust. “Their sister has been taken by Marco.” I stand up as I say this. I hear the gasps from the two other families. They know that Marco is the head of the Mexican Mafia, a.k.a. Ray.
Having the Families back me up would be a huge thing. They have men everywhere. All it would take is one sighting or for someone to hear a conversation.
I look at the two families before I continue, “I’m not asking you guys to give me men to fight. What I’m asking is that you keep an ear out. Try to figure out where he’s holding Anna.”
Everyone knows that Anna is a Moretti. Everyone is shocked that Marco would actually do this. We all thought we knew him.
“I figure we need to hire about seventy-five techs and another fifty field guys.” I look at Jax as I say this, he nods in agreement.
Booker doesn’t need any further instructions, he quickly starts trying to organize the specialists.
It’s not as bad of a paper trail that I’ve left, but it’s a long one. Marco was going under two aliases. It’s going to take a lot longer and be a lot harder to find him. If he buys the property, he’s not gonna slap his real name or even his alias name on the deed. He’s going to run it through shell corps or have one of his guys, maybe an extended family member buy it.
This is why we need a lot of people and we need them working now, we also need them highly trained. They will be able to get through this stuff faster than any of us could.
There’s not that much more to say as the other two families leave in shock. They said they’ll do whatever they can to help me, help both of us. Anna’s a sweet girl to everybody.
“That’s a good idea, it’ll save us a ton of time.” Jax states as he comes and stands next to me.
“I just hope it works soon. Who knows what he’s doing to her.” Both of us clench our teeth as the idea goes through our heads.
Finn and Colt decide to take off as Jax and Mason go over and start helping Booker. We want them to be here in a few hours. Even if they have jobs they’re very committed to. We’ve offered a huge bonus, they could just take vacation or sick time.
We want the field guys to be out there pounding the pavement looking for clues. Talking to anybody who might’ve known Marco or Ray. There’s a lot of people that are loyal and just afraid of the Mexicans, but there’s a lot of people that are pissed off and can’t stand him.
It takes about twenty minutes for Jax and Booker to find what they’re looking for. We’ve been able to get a start time to everybody for two hours from now. Booker quickly walks behind my desk and sits down. I know he’s making up some bullet point material for the new techs to go through.
A shipment of laptops is on the way and should be here within the hour. I also have the cable company coming to install a huge server to support all these laptops.
Through my server, everything these people need will be granted to them. They won’t have to worry about getting access to anything. Hopefully by tomorrow, we will have some clear answers on where Anna might be.
I take a few minutes to myself as commotion starts to pick up. My emotions are shattered and I’m feeling weak. I hate that feeling, I need to get my girl back fast. I jump in the shower hoping to ease my achy and tense muscles, wishing I could just wash away all my dread.
