“Not really.”

A sly grin spreads across his face as he stabs a finger in my direction. “So she does hang out there.” He rubs his meaty hands together. “Describe her. I bet I’ve seen her around.”

I throw a glance at the door, wishing for escape before I let something slip. “Isn’t Kelsey waiting for you?” I ask, trying to shift the conversation.

He rolls his eyes. “She’s probably getting herself off.” His brows rise. “Wanna go watch?”

Fuck no.

With a shake of my head, I inch my way toward the door. “Sorry, I need to get moving.”

“Come on,” he whines, “tell me who this chick is. I’m dying over here. It’s a jersey chaser, isn’t it? You’re fucking a groupie.” Before I can open my mouth to deny the claim, he goes on. “Hey, it’s totally cool if you are. There’s something to be said for boning a girl who knows the drill. And has probably been drilled in both holes.” His head drops back onto the couch cushion. “Fuuuuck, I love a chick who can take a good ass pounding.”

“She’s not a cleat sniffer,” I grunt. It takes effort to stop the muscle from ticking in my jaw as I grit my teeth.

He shrugs as if he doesn’t really give a shit. “Just trying to figure out what’s going on, since you’re being all secretive. I’ve never known you to get serious. Not even in high school.”

“Yeah, well, maybe things are different now.”

He snorts out a laugh. “Yeah, right. You’ve always hit that pussy hard before moving on to the next. Are you really telling me that after all these years of nailing groupie ass, you’re suddenly interested in being tied down?”

“Maybe I am,” I mutter. A few more steps and I’ll be at the door. I need to get out of here before he can fire off any more questions. “I’ve got to get moving, but I’ll catch you later.”

He waves me off before rising to his feet and stretching. “Whatever, dude.”

Just as I grab the handle, he says, “Candy will be here for a few hours if you change your mind. Girlfriend or not, a man’s got to nail as much ass as he can.”

Not bothering to respond, I slam the door shut and head down the stairwell to the first floor before pushing into the lobby. Normally, I take the Mustang if I’m going anywhere. But the football house is only a couple blocks away, and I need the cold air to help clear my mind.

A few teammates acknowledge me with chin lifts as I step inside the house. There’s a ton of people chilling in the living room, watching a show. Asher has his arms wrapped around the two blondes cozied up to him. He flashes a grin when he catches sight of me.

Typical Asher.

I search the room for Easton. My guess is that he’s with Sasha at her apartment, which is exactly why I need to hang here for a couple of hours. I’d much rather be over there, too. Everything just feels better when I’m with Brooke.

“There’s pizza in the dining room if you’re hungry,” Rowan Michaels says, walking down the staircase with his arm draped around his better half. Demi Richards is Coach’s daughter. I wasn’t shocked when they got together. It was always obvious that our QB had feelings for her. I’m just surprised it took him so long to make his move.

“Thanks, but I grabbed something at the apartment.” I glance at the dark-haired girl. “Hey, Demi. Will you do me a favor? Tell your dad to stop running our asses into the ground.”

She grins before lifting a brow. “You really want me to do that?”

On second thought…

I shake my head. “Nah, it’ll only make him more sadistic.”

“Sounds like you know him well.”

“We’re heading out to a movie. Any interest?” Rowan asks.

Brayden strolls out of the kitchen with his girlfriend, Sydney Daniels. She’s teammates with Sasha and Demi for the Western Wildcats women’s soccer program. Like me, they’re all seniors.

I fist bump Brayden before nodding to his girlfriend. It’s kind of unbelievable that these guys are now in relationships. There was a time when we’d all head out on a Saturday, looking to get drunk and laid. Instead of partying, they’re double dating.

“Are you heading to the movies, too?” I ask her.

Sydney nods. “Yup, we’re dragging them to that new romantic comedy that just hit the theater.”

Brayden rolls his eyes and grumbles, “Did you really have to tell him that? It makes us look pussy whipped.”

Sydney elbows him sharply in the ribs. “That’s because you are.”

“Maybe.”

She smiles sweetly at me. That’s one thing about Sydney. She’ll give just as good as she gets, which makes her the perfect match for Bray.

Rowan glances at his sports watch. “We’d better take off. Time’s ticking, Rhodes. What’s it gonna be?”
