“Yeah, because you don’t’ have to deal with his silliness.” Syn hurried to get dressed.

“Is he a good cop?” Furi asked without looking up.

Syn smiled. “Believe it or not, he’s awesome. Put him with God and they're unbeatable, otherwise I wouldn’t have come all the way from Philly to work for them.”

Syn finished clipping on his phones and badge before snapping his weapons into his holster. He walked over to where Furi sat on the bed watching his preparations. He nudged his way in between his knees and cradled Furi’s face in his palms. If the gesture shocked Furi, he didn’t show it, he just lifted his face up to stare at Syn. “If you have any problems.” Syn took a deep breath, silently wishing Furi would just stay where he knew he’d be safe. He wasn’t Furi’s keeper and he wouldn’t bully him, he’d already had enough of that in his life. “Get someplace safe first, then call me immediately.”

Furi put his hands over top of Syn’s and slowly brought their hands down. He stood and wrapped his arms around Syn’s neck and Syn hugged Furi tightly to him. Their mouths came together hard and hungry. Biting and licking each other, like one of them was leaving for a long journey. They kissed like it could be their last time, and it unnerved the hell out of Syn. He didn’t like this feeling, he didn’t like the uncertainty of this whole fucked up situation. He needed to fix this. They weren’t in bed right now. Furi wasn’t on top of him or inside of him, grounding him. They were heading back out into the ruthless world and that was Syn’s domain, that’s where he took back control. If something happened to the man in his arms he’d never forgive himself. “What’s Doug’s phone number?” Syn asked breaking their kiss.

Furi looked at him for a few seconds before rattling off the few digits. “I’ll only use it if I can’t reach you,” Syn said, programming the number into his personal cell.

Furi released a deep sigh, making Syn look up. “What’s wrong? Are you nervous?”

“Actually, yes, very much,” Furi confessed and Syn desperately wanted to put him at ease.

Syn lifted Furi’s chin so they were eye-to-eye. “I’m only a phone call away. If some shit pops off, I can have someone to you in seconds, do you underst–”

“That’s it right there,” Furi cut Syn off. “I’m not nervous about my ex or Sasha’s angry bitches. I’m nervous about you.” Syn started to speak but Furi put his hand up to stop him.

“I know I fought you tooth-and-nail before. I was a jerk to you and that’s only when I wasn’t acting like an unappreciative brat. You’ve saved my life more than once already, and I..." Furi seemed to search for the right words before he could continue. “I don’t want you to give up on me when you start to feel like this is too much work. You can’t be focused on your already demanding job if you’re worried about what trouble I may be getting into. You have to keep your head together so you can lead your team.”

Syn was shaking his head no before Furi finished talking. “That’s not true. I don’t throw my hands up in surrender on anything.”

“Have you had many boyfriends or girlfriends, Syn? My guess would be no. It’s stressful at best. You definitely don’t need it affecting your ability to do your job.”

Syn pointed out his bedroom window. “Out on those streets, I can handle that all day. Let me do what I do, Furious. Let me handle it.” Syn gestured around the room. “This here in my bed, I’ll let you handle that, and everything will balance itself out.”

Furi smiled at Syn’s suggestion, hopefully liking it.

“Furious.” Syn stepped in closer and put his mouth on Furi’s long neck, inhaling the masculine scent and the intoxicating sandalwood fragrance that lingered in his beautiful hair. “Now that I’ve had you, had you inside of me ... I’m not going any fuckin’ where.”

Syn leaned in for another kiss and was just about to deepen it when he heard God bellow from the front door for him to 'bring his ass.'

“I gotta go.” Syn kissed Furi’s cheek. “I’ll call you later. Be safe.” It felt like something else wanted to emerge from his lips but he tamped down that unfamiliar feeling and left out the room.

‘Verbal Vomit’

Sasha Pain was an incredibly beautiful woman. She sat on the other side of the cold metal table staring at them with a look of shock and fear.

Ronowski had already got Shelia McIntyre; also known as Sasha Pain, to confess to conspiring with Lady J to commit murder and buying laced ecstasy to drug her coworkers. He’d done all that before they even arrived in the office. Syn gave Ro a congratulatory pat on the back, while they walked to their office. “Good job, man. Real good work.” Syn smiled.
