“I’d rather be eating your p—”
“Do not finish that sentence, Hollis Wilder.”
I grin. “I was going to say pie—did you think I was going to say pussy? Who’s the dirty one now?”
“You’re impossible.”
“But you love me,” I point out.
She gives me a smile—so I know I’m not entirely in trouble.
“For whatever unknown reason, I do.”
We might be unexplainable, but what we have is real, and I’m thankful for whatever force out there put us in each other’s path. I don’t pretend to know where the future will lead us, and I’ve always been a live in the moment kind of guy, but right here, right now, it’s safe to say I’m happier than I’ve ever been. And I think, no I know, I make Mia happy too—and her happiness?
It’s the best damn reward in the entire fucking universe.

Mia
I stroll across campus toward my car. My final exam is over and holiday break has officially begun.
I can breathe a sigh of relief because the semester from hell is done.
I unlock my car and open the passenger door, dropping my backpack on the seat.
“Mia!” I look over my shoulder to see Kira running across campus toward me.
“Hey,” I say, closing the door as she stops in front of me.
“Are you going to the studio?” she asks.
I nod. “Yeah. I’m picking up something to eat first and then I’m heading over. You wanna come?”
“Yes, please. I don’t have to work, and now that I don’t have to study the last thing I want to do is hang out by myself in my apartment.”
“You need to get a cat or something,” I tell her.
“I already have one of those.” She winks. “And I pet it often,” she adds.
“Oh, ew, Kira. Too much information.”
She laughs wickedly. Honestly, she and Hollis could form a club. It can be called the Embarrass Mia Club.
“Just get in the car,” I mumble, heading to the driver’s side.
She climbs in and tosses our backpacks into the backseat.
I pull out my phone and place an order at a
local restaurant, adding on an order for Kira as well. I should let her starve for her masturbation comment, but I’m not that mean.
She takes over the radio as I drive over to the bar and grill on the opposite side of town. I don’t even grumble when she changes the station. Kira does what Kira wants. While it can be annoying at times, it’s actually one of the things I like most about her.
I reach the restaurant and park in one of the to-go spots, waiting for them to bring the food out to the car. When they do I hand over the card that charges to my dad’s business account. Once the guy is gone to swipe the card I carefully check each order. I’ve learned the hard way they almost always mess something up. Thankfully, for once it looks as if everything is there.
The guy jogs back out and I take the card, signing the slip and hand it back to him.
