“Ari,” he begins, and a pang from my own dishonesty of not giving him my real name shoots through me. I push it back because I’m the only one that should be in their feelings at this very moment. “Let me explain,” he says.

I walk over to stand closer to him. “I’m listening.”

Chapter Seven

Blaze

When Terry asks if ‘the hooker got jizz on his clothes,’ I know I’m in trouble. My apartment is only so big that I’m sure loud-mouth Terry’s voice resonates throughout it. I try to get him out as quickly as he comes in, but he can’t catch a clue to save his life. When Ari walks into the room, and my eyes land on hers, the almost imperceptible flinch in her face grips me. If I wasn’t trained to conduct interrogations, I might’ve missed it, but with all the experience I’ve had, it might as well be a blinking neon light that Terry has crossed a line. This is why I shouldn’t be on this assignment! I lament silently.

I’m so far from capable of dealing with beautiful prostitutes that literally anyone else in the entire precinct could have done a better job than I’m doing right now. The fact that I’m starting to think I’ll be okay with getting fired if I can only get an orgasm out of Ari is a clear sign of my incompetence.

“He let me bor

row an outfit the other night.”

“Yeah, but my question is do you usually play dress up when you’re looking for prostitutes, Blaze?” She crosses her arms over her chest and waits for me to answer. I don’t like hearing the hurt in her voice.

Damn you, Terry. Your big ass mouth is always running.

“Baby, listen to me.” I pull her close to me. “I don’t usually go looking for prostitutes,” I admit truthfully. “My friend can be a talkative asshole, but that’s him. Tell me, did I say or do something to offend you?”

“No, it wasn’t anything you said.”

“And, I never would say or do anything to offend you, Ari. Not knowingly anyway. So, don’t let what someone else does affect us, okay?”

“I don’t know what I’m feeling right now. This is just a very complicated situation,” she admits as she pulls away from me.

And I don’t know what I’m feeling either. Except I know what I want to touch, feel, and experience, and it isn’t an argument.

“You’ll have to tell me your boundaries. If you don’t want me to open the door or answer the phone when you’re around, it’s done,” I submit.

“You didn’t do anything wrong, per se. It’s just—”

“What is it, baby?”

“Nothing.”

“I did say something wrong, didn’t I?” I can’t explain why I’m so concerned about her feelings. I haven’t cared about what a woman thought this deeply in…forever. “Tell me what it is and I’ll fix it. It will never happen again.”

“I just got offended with him insinuating I’m just some prostitute as if I don’t mean anything to—” She catches herself before she finishes that thought. “Well, we’re only here for the moment, I suppose,” she says instead.

Ari studies me and comes to stand close to me once again. My arms envelop her, and I pick her up.

“Ari, you just don’t know—” I stop talking as her legs wrap around me, and the heat from her body warms me all over. She rocks her hips in slow, lazy motions. She starts to smile when I can’t hold back a grunt at the spark that friction causes. I get momentarily mesmerized watching as Ari’s pupils go from a light hazel to a darker shade of brown.

“We’re just two strangers enjoying a moment, right?” she asks.

“Oh, baby,” is all I can muster from the feel of her womanhood pressing against my cock. All I know in this moment is I want this woman more than my next breath. “I want you,” I groan against her ear.

“If tonight is all we have, promise me one thing,” she says.

“Anything.”

“Please, let’s take it slow.”

“I just want to make you happy for as long as I can, Ari,” I mutter against her ear.

“I’ll sort out my feelings tomorrow. But, I can assure you, Blaze, everything you’re doing is making me happy.”
