“Damn right, I would’ve.” Her arms snake around my neck, and she continues to dance seductively, using me as her own personal dance pole.

I’m not sure how long we dance, but when the club lights and music lower, I realize I’ve spent my entire night with Lexi in my arms, and it feels so damn good that, when she removes her hands from my body, I almost pull her closer, not wanting her to let go. And that thought has me sobering because Lexi isn’t mine to hold on to. No matter how much I wish she were.

“I’m meeting my dad and Lacie for brunch later. Want to join me?” I ask Lexi when we’re back home and heading to bed.

“Sure, just wake me up,” she says before heading into her room. “Good night, Birthday Boy.”

My alarm goes off all too soon, and after hitting snooze several times, I finally drag myself out of bed. What the hell was I thinking agreeing to go to brunch the morning after going clubbing? Knowing Lexi will need some time to get ready, I make my way to her room. Her door is partly open, so I don’t bother to knock, instead quietly entering. She’s sleeping on the left side of her bed like always. I constantly joke with her that she has a king-sized bed for no reason since she never sleeps on the entire thing. Georgia says she’s waiting to share a bed with someone.

With her eyes closed and her face free of her makeup, she looks all natural and even more beautiful. Her body is snuggled into her blanket, and she’s snoring lightly. I look at the time on my cell phone. Maybe I have enough time to lie with her for a little while…

Setting my alarm for a little later, I drop it onto the nightstand and climb onto the right side of the bed. Lexi startles slightly when she feels the bed dip, but when her eyes open and she sees it’s me, a small smile makes its way upon her lips. She groans softly and edges closer so that her neck is snuggled in the area where my shoulder meets my chest. She throws her arm over my stomach and immediately falls back asleep. I should close my eyes and get another hour of sleep, but all I can think about is how perfectly her body fits with mine.

“Alec, it’s time to wake up.” I open my eyes and look around. I must’ve fallen back asleep after all. “Your alarm was going off, but I hit stop.” Lexi’s chin rests on my arm as she smiles up at me. “Did you have trouble sleeping?”

“No, I came in here to wake you up, but you looked so adorable sleeping and snoring, I decided to join you.” My comment earns me a swat to my arm.

“You don’t tell a woman she snores.” Lexi sits up and pouts. “Now get out, so I can get ready. What time do we need to leave by?”

“Ten thirty.”

After I get ready, I head out to the living room to wait for Lexi. Chase is lying on my couch, scrolling through his phone.

“Have a good night?” he asks.

“Yeah, it was a good birthday. You?”

“Yeah, until Georgia—”

“Until Georgia what?” Lexi asks, stepping into the living room.

“Left me hanging for another guy,” Chase finishes, shocking the hell out of not only me but Lexi.

“What?” Lexi gasps. “What are you talking about?”

“Last night… You two were too into each other to notice, but while I was dancing with Georgia, some asshole asked to cut in, and she let him.”

“Well, you are married,” Lexi points out.

“And he’s not an asshole,” Georgia says, joining the conversation. “His name is Robert and he’s very sweet.”

Lexi’s mouth falls open. “You got his name?”

“And his number.” Georgia smiles. “I figured it was a good first step to find my perfect path.”

“What the hell is up with you and these paths?” I ask.

Georgia blushes and Lexi actually looks at me shyly.

“It’s none of your business,” Lexi says. “It’s a sister thing.” She walks over to Georgia and envelops her in a hug. “I’m so proud of you. I think that’s a great first step.”

I’m not sure what they mean by a path, but so far, it’s involved Georgia dressing sexy and getting a guy’s number. I have a feeling this path bullshit isn’t something I’m going to like. Especially if it involves Lexi getting a guy’s number.

Lexi and I arrive at the restaurant at eleven on the dot, and I spot my dad and Lacie already seated. I texted him before we left to let him know that Lexi would be joining us, so he could get us a table for four.

“Good morning, you two.” Dad stands and gives me and Lexi a hug. Lacie does the same. The waiter comes over and we order our drinks.
