I kept my senses open and stayed alert so that I was aware of what was going on around us. When I lifted my head her eyes had that glazed over look and her lips begged to be kissed again.
Sometimes, like now, I wonder how anyone can love someone this much. It seems impossible for a body to hold this much emotion, almost like it’s larger than myself. And I wonder how I got so lucky, to have found someone like her. It seems almost impossible that you could find true love as easily as I have.
“What’s that look?” She reached up and caressed my cheek.
“I was just thinking how lucky I am that you’re mine.” A cloud passed through her eyes before she smiled. Oh yeah, something’s bothering her again.
Lyon
I heard engines outside and looked at my watch. It was a bit early for my crew and their women to be showing up, the BBQs around here never kick off until about six or seven. Besides, that didn’t sound like bikes out there. Probably Elena and her hen pack, though that sounded like way too many engines.
Mancini and I had been working, he on that thing he carries around in his pocket that seems to hold a wealth of information and me on my computer. We’d got rid of Mengele’s shit and had made doubly sure that there were no more surprises because I didn’t trust her ass not to have something else on my shit that she ‘forgot’ to tell us about.
“You wanna take a break? I can’t find anything. The guys Mengele and her girls found are too far out for it to be them who are after Caitiebear, though I do think they might lead us somewhere.”
“I agree, though they’re part of the bigger picture, something to work on in the near future.”
“No doubt, but I want to find these assholes before the summer’s over. Sometime in the next few days would be perfect but I’m not holding out much hope. If not I’m gonna have to come up with another way to give my kid what she wants.”
“I take it then that you’ve decided to let Caitlin go to school a year early? You know there’re things we can do to keep her safe…”
“I know but it’s not the same. I won’t feel settled until they’re all the way gone … Law, the fuck are you doing here?”
I got to my feet as he came into the room followed by his boys and… “Tyler? What…?”
“Don’t ask me bruh, when I woke up this morning I didn’t know that I was going to be coming halfway around the country for a BBQ.”
They were all here, including Creed. What the fuck is my wife up to now? “I don’t get it, where are your women?”
“Downstairs with your wives.”
“What’s the deal Logan?” I know if anyone knows he would. He seems to be the only one of the SEALs who can control his woman. He just shrugged and pounded my fist in greeting. “I don’t know shit, my daughter keeps me on my toes.”
“Aren’t your two due like today?” I looked at Devon and Quinn.
“Nah, we still got a ways to go. From what I heard, Cierra is the next one to pop, and since we were coming this way to see Law’s new boy anyway, the women decided we could come a day early. Your wife called and they got the ball rolling.” Devon walked over to pound fists.
“By the way I’m guessing you didn’t know your wife sent your sweet ride to get us here this fast Mancini since you two seem so surprised to see us.” Zak teased as he came into the room.
“It’s hers she can do whatever she wants with it.” These fucks are so dumb.
“You idiots really believe that she called you all the way over here for a BBQ?”
“Hell no, but Dana-Sue’s ass isn’t talking and these others couldn’t get shit outta their girls; Connor?”
“I can’t get a bead on it. Whatever it is they’re up to they’ve planned the shit very well because I haven’t heard a peep out of Danielle.”
“So let me get this straight; all of you packed up your wives and newborn babies and came all this way without knowing what the hell is going on.”
“Sounds about right, and before you start your shit Colt, remember, it was your woman’s idea.”
“You’ve got a point Creed. I’ve been too busy with other things to ride herd on her ass. Fuck!” The conversation switched from meddling wives to human traffickers and before you know it a couple hours had gone by before we came up for air.
“Shit, I gotta go help Kat set up for the BBQ.” Where the hell did the time go, and where is that boy with my kid? No matter what was going on, or how deep the conversation got I still kept my eye on the monitor. I know she wasn’t far because her signal was still strong, but…
