He kissed me softly.

“Please, Brax,” I whispered against his lips.

For a long moment, he stared at me, just watching me. Then he thrust inside me with a groan.

Brax

I went completely still for a moment, wanting to relish the moment of being inside her. Tight, silky, and wet—just as I’d imagined. I looked down at her blue eyes, so dark with passion. Her gaze shifted to my lips, and I smiled before I kissed her, moving slowly.

Her head fell back with each stroke, baring her long neck. I kissed the wildly beating pulse there and heard the soft moan emanate from somewhere deep within her, mingled with my name. I increased the rhythm, and she urged me on with soft whimpers.

Soft thighs clamped around my hips, her ankles locking at my back.

My own need grew with each second.

She reached above her head, grabbing hold of the headboard.

Knowing there would be other opportunities to take our time, I matched her frantic rhythm, and just as I felt her honeyed walls quickening around my cock, I thrust three more times, following her to my own shattering climax.

Amanda

Freshly showered and once again wearing my cotton sundress, sans thong, I smiled as I sat in Brax’s living room, sipping the glass of wine he’d just poured for me.

“I hope you like chicken,” Brax called from the kitchen.

“My favorite.”

“I thought so,” he replied, appearing at the kitchen entrance holding two plates, looking damn sexy in his jeans and tight t-shirt, his dark hair curling at the collar. “Dinner is ready, madam.”

The tiny eating area off the kitchen was dimly lit by candles; the crisp white cloth of the table was accented by china and crystal. He pulled out my chair, put my napkin over my lap, and bent to kiss my neck. “You look smoking hot.”

I felt myself blush. I’d just had the best sex of my life with the most gorgeous man on the planet. Life didn’t get any better than that.

“Try it,” he said, taking the seat opposite me.

I cut into the moist chicken, prepared to like it even if it was horrible. But it wasn’t. It was wonderful. Of course it was perfect. There seemed to be nothing Brax couldn’t do. Savoring each bite of the juicy meat and light pasta, I watched him watch me. “Who would have known you could cook,” I said, wiping my mouth with the linen napkin.

“My mom worked a lot, so I had to make myself dinner or go without.”

“Or eat at my house.”

He laughed and lifted his glass. “Exactly.”

“Don’t tell anyone I love to cook—I wouldn’t want to ruin my reputation,” he said with a smile that was altogether too wicked and made me look forward to our next round in the bedroom.

I wondered what he knew about his reputation. Did he realize that women coveted him and exchanged notes about his prowess in the bedroom, not to mention his commitment phobia?

Pushing all negative thoughts aside, I instead focused my full attention on him and the great meal in front of me.

We ate in silence for the next few minutes.

“So you said your mom moved to Texas,” I said in between bites. “What about your father?”

He dropped his gaze. “He lives in Portland.”

“Do you see him often?”

“Not if I can help it.”

Toby had always been so close-lipped when it came to talking about Brax. Now I wanted to know everything, but I asked with caution. “I don’t remember him being around when you were younger.”

“He wasn’t.” Brax speared a green bean with his fork and slid it in his mouth. “The only time he comes around is when he needs something from me.”

How devastating. Granted, I didn’t see my father all that much, but he was busy working. He had dropped by just once at the new house, but I did see him on Sundays during dinner at their house. That didn’t mean he didn’t need me, and he certainly didn’t come knocking at my door asking for things. “I guess I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have the family I do have.”

He glanced up, the smile returning. “Yes, you are fortunate. Growing up, I envied Toby so much for the life you all had.”

Realizing the mood had become heavy, I slid my foot up the inside of his leg.
