Sebastian pulls himself up onto the windowsill of his car and waves his tattooed arm at me. “Yo, babe. Get that sweet ass over here and let me take you home.”
“The fuck?” Drix grunts, staring in shock. “How many of these tattooed sex slaves have you been keeping from me. Holy fuck. Look at him.”
My gaze sweeps over him, trying to see what she sees. Yet to me, all I see is a brother. If you want to get all technical, then yeah, I guess you could say that he’s got a rock hard body covered in stunning artwork, and the most seductive eyes I’ve ever seen. But to me … the idea of seeing him as anything remotely sexual is kinda disturbing.
I let out a groan and glance at Drix. “I’ll see you tomorrow,” I tell her.
“You better. Tomorrow I’m not holding back. I want answers on who the hell these guys are and how to get a few of my own.”
I roll my eyes and find a smirk cutting across my lips while very quickly realizing that she won’t let me evade her questions for much longer. She spent all day trying to get information about Nic out of me. She thought the more she asked, the more likely I’d be to break, but there are a few things she needs to learn about loyalty. Where I’m from, it’s something you don’t break, no matter what the circumstances.
Drix doesn’t bother waiting for a reply and scurries off to her car, leaving me to face Sebastian on my own. Though, I wouldn't have it any other way. Whatever gets said here definitely needs to be done in private.
I make my way over to his car and don’t miss the cautiousness in his eyes. Sebastian is always so carefree so when something is bothering him, it’s as clear as day on his face. People always say that the eyes are the window to the soul and in Sebastian’s case, it’s absolutely true.
I stop by his driver's door and look up at him as he remains perched on the windowsill. “What are you doing here?”
He gives me a beaming smile and ignores my questions. “Thought I was going to have to drag you over here.” I roll my eyes and turn away. I get all of two steps before he reels in his attitude and realizes that I'm not in the mood to play around. “No, no, no, Ocean baby. Please, let me drive you home. I came all this way just to drive you ten minutes down the road. Please don’t make my trip for nothing.”
“Really?” I grunt. “That’s the excuse you want to go with? You realize that I don’t give a shit if you walked here. That doesn’t mean that I’m automatically obligated to sit on your damn shoulders as you hobble back to my pool house.”
“Yeah, I know. Of course, I know that. It's just … I really miss you and I’d really, really love to drive you home.”
I meet his eyes and in a flash, he gives me his award-winning puppy dog eyes and I crumble with need, so utterly desperate to have my friend back. “Fine,” I groan, trying harder than ever to keep the annoyed tone in my voice. “But you better make it quick and no extra stops along the way.”
Sebastian salutes me and as I start walking around to the passenger’s side, he drops back through the window and makes himself comfortable. I climb in beside him and as I fasten my seat belt, I feel his heavy stare on me. “What?” I snap.
“Nothing, I just … how are you?”
I raise a brow. “How am I?” I say with a sick laugh. “My best friends all lied to me, my father was murdered, and Charles was murdered—possibly by the same guy. My father was a secret killer that sold me, I moved to a town that hated me, and now I’m possibly falling in love with a guy who has the power to destroy me. Oh, then I was raped, and nearly killed in a drive-by shooting. Not to mention all the bullshit I’ve had to put up with along the way like Colton’s bitchy mom and sisters and the dickheads at the Academy throwing acid over me. So, you tell me how I am.”
“Okaaaay,” he says slowly, hitting the gas and pulling away from the curb. “So, things haven’t been going so great? I mean, you’ve got that whole falling for Colton thing, right? That’s a positive. It’s not all bad.”
I level a heavy glare on him and he instantly swallows whatever bullshit that was about to come flying out of his mouth. “Can we just skip over all the stupid bullshit and say what needs to be said?”
Sebastian lets out a heavy breath and as he glances across at me, I see fear in his eyes and realize that he’s been working up to this moment, too afraid that I’ll push him away and risk fucking it all up even more. “Okay,” he finally says. “We fucked up. Each and every one of us, we fucked it all up, like royally fucked up. Every step along the way, we had an opportunity to come clean to you and we hid it in our selfish need to protect you when we should have known that not only were you strong enough to handle it, you would have been able to protect yourself better.”
