“That was a very generous gift you both gave your dad,” I finally say, breaking the comfortable silence.
“I know. We’ve been saving for it for a while now,” she admits, and I can feel her eyes on me. “You fit in well at the clubhouse. Especially considering it’s not even your own clubhouse.”
I laugh. “Well, lucky for me, the Knights and Wind Dragons are friends, so it was nice to see them all and to meet some new people, too.”
“How are you so close with the Wind Dragons? I don’t understand how they like you so much.”
My jaw drops. “Because I’m charming as fuck, thanks for noticing.”
“Not to me, you’re not. And you know what I mean. You’re a Knight. I get that you are allies, but you guys act like best fucking friends,” she says, staring at me in suspicion. “They trust you.”
“And I trust them. I don’t know, I guess it is unusual, but we are all on the same side, and with everything going on with Marko, we’ve been thrown into situations where we had to trust each other to survive. We work well together. Why does it bother you so much?”
“It doesn’t bother me. I’m just trying to understand,” she admits.
She hasn’t been around for a lot of the things that happened, and that’s a good thing, because a lot of the time it wasn’t safe, but maybe she feels like she’s missed out on a chapter and is now lost a little.
“I’ve been through a lot of shit with the Wind Dragons, and we’re all close now. You’ll get used to having us Knights around.”
She rolls her eyes. “You’re a social guy, aren’t you? I think you’re one of those people who can just get along with anyone.”
“I’m friendly.” I nod.
“So why haven’t you been like that with me?” she asks boldly.
I lick my suddenly dry lips. “I don’t know.”
“Yes you do.”
“You are different. And yeah, I guess I get along with most people. But I don’t have many people who judge me before they even meet me.”
She’s silent for a while, before she sighs. “You’re right. I did judge you the minute I realized you were a biker. But don’t take it personally. You don’t know what it was like, being raised around bikers.”
I clench the steering wheel. “Did something bad happen to you?” The thought of something happening makes me want to punch things.
“What? Oh god no, that’s not what I meant.” She pauses a bit. “I was around bikers my whole life. It is all that I knew. So when I moved out and got to meet people outside the MC, it just opened my eyes to the fact there are so many other people in the world.”
I’m beginning to understand a bit more where she’s coming from. “So you don’t date bikers to, what, play the field?”
She shrugs. “To see what I like.”
“And you like the suits?”
She smiles a sultry smile. “I don’t hate the suits...”
“And when they find out you’re from a biker family?”
Her demeanor changes when I bring the real world back into focus. “Sometimes they find out and other times I hide it from them. I haven’t really had anyone serious that I introduced to my family and I don’t have many people that I’m superclose with, if you know what I mean. I’m pretty private, and I like my space. I don’t mind my own company, I never have. Cara says it’s because I’m an Aquarius.”
“I don’t know much about astrology,” I admit, amused. “But I’m usually a pretty good judge of character when it comes to people.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yep.”
“What star sign are you?” she asks.
“I’m a Gemini.”
