I want to lay like this forever

I stared at the tiny white box emitting these amazing words that were cracking through my defenses. Not that Drey hadn’t already, but still. This was so…strange. He dedicated a song to me on the radio?

“I’m. About. To. Die!” Lizzie shouted as she held her hand over her chest. “He did not just do that, did he?”

“He did.” Angelina’s face filled with contentment as she eyed me. “He did this for you.”

“A song?” I eased onto the stool. “I…don’t get it.”

Lizzie giggled. “We are so watchingValley Girltonight. Remember that one, Angelina? When he calls in a song for her? It’s so…mushy it’s cute.”

What was Lizzie talking about?

“Wow. I think I get it.” Angelina hitched her hip on the edge of the counter. “Makes total sense to me. He’s trying to show you what dating is like. You know the sweet, corny things guys do for their girls to…woo them.”

“Woo?” I’d never been wooed before, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at the word alone. “How can you woo someone who’s seen and done pretty much everything there is to do with a guy. I—”

“But you were forced to do that. You were never romanced. He’s going to spoil you rotten. Treat you like…a princess. Every girl wants it.” Lizzie’s shoulders slumped. “Everygirl. I don’t care who you are.”

“And I’m thinking you, above everyone, deserves it the most.” Angelina tapped my hand.

I wasn’t sure what I deserved or wanted, but the idea of Drey thinking of me enough to do something this sweet for me…that was pretty freaking awesome. Hope beamed in Lizzie’s and Angelina’s eyes. And to think I had two friends to share it with.

Me, someone who’d been isolated from the second I was dragged away from my mom and thrown into Nicco’s harem of women, had friends. A…boyfriend.

“What am I supposed to do in return?”

Lizzie clapped. “Oh, I’m thinking some serious kissing and…” She waggled her eyebrows. “Would be fine.”

“Lizzie!” Angelina tossed a rag at her.

She flinched but caught it. Then proceeded to fold it in a nice, neat…andverytight square. Patting it three times, of course, then lining it up exactly perpendicular to the edge of the counter.

Her hands shaking the entire time.

“Okay. Okay. You guys, seriously, what do I do?”

Angelina shrugged. “Text him or something. Say thanks. Or…we could take a picture.”

“Oh. Snapchat!” Lizzie jumped off her seat. “But you need something…a little more revealing.”

“Oh, I might have something fun…” Angelina clapped her hands. “I might have a fun black leather costume next door.”

“You guys arebad.” I slapped Angelina’s butt as she hustled by.

“We’re just playing.” She grinned, but she turned around, her face more serious. The switch had my head spinning. “You…love him, don’t you?”

“Love, huh?” I glanced at the radio, which was now playing a different song.

Sure, I loved him hard. At least I was pretty sure it was love. I thought about him all the time, and ever since I told him about my past, I felt like we were in sync. Connected deeper than I could ever imagine. Mostly because he learned about the ugliness that was my life. Hell, had seen glimpses of it with that night terror, and how I was with all those guys at the club, but he didn’t judge me.

He’d waited for me.

“Yeah. I do.”

“You told him yet?”

“Sort of.”
