She elbows me. “I’m not talking about them and you know it.”

I do know it. I’ve been withholding information from my family about why I’m working full-time atElectric Vibes. But they’re not stupid. They know I’ve been keeping secrets. But I’m not ready to reveal my big plans for buying the bar.

If I do, Beckett will butt in and throw his knowledge and money around. I don’t need his help. I don’t want his help. And I don’t deserve any family money. Nope. I’m doing this on my own.

I smile when big brother enters the waiting room. Excellent timing. He’s in a wheelchair and his foot is in a cast.

“We’ll chat later,” I lie to Gabrielle before hurrying off. I can hear her sigh all the way across the busy emergency room.

Chapter 14

It’s all well and good to be patient, but sometimes you have to force your way in when dealing with the world’s most stubborn woman ~ Cedar’s rules for getting what he wants in life

Ashlyn opens the door and jumps right in, “I have a beef with you.”

I lean over and kiss her cheek. “Hi, Ashlyn. It’s lovely to see you. I’m fine, thank you for asking. How are you?”

“I’m annoyed you lied to my sister from a different mister.” I had to ask, didn’t I?

“Can you at least let my brother in the house before you attack him?” Rowan yells from inside their house.

Ashlyn shackles my wrist and drags me into the house. Or, rather, I allow her to drag me inside. She may be tall at five-eight, but she recently gave birth to my niece, and I’ve been ordered by my brother to treat her with kid gloves.

“I didn’t realize you and Cassandra are friends.”

Ashlyn rolls her eyes. “Her brother is in love with my sister and we both live in Winter Falls. Of course, we’re friends.”

“Cassandra doesn’t live in Winter Falls.”

“She does now.”

“What?” When did this happen? And why didn’t she tell me? Maybe because she’s not speaking to me because she’s still mad at me.

Rowan slaps me on the back. “This is why you need to come into town more often.”

“I don’t need to know all the gossip.”

“You don’t want to know Cassandra is living in town?”

I don’t respond since, despite what Cassie thinks, I prefer not to lie.

Ashlyn grins. “This is going to be more fun than Project Lothario.”

Unfortunately, I know exactly what Project Lothario is. I may be a bit of a hermit who prefers to avoid humans more than he prefers to avoid gossip, but it’s impossible not to know how the gossip gals dubbed their quest to match River and Elizabeth Project Lothario.

“The gossip gals better not set their sights on me and Cassandra.”

“Why not? What’s wrong with Cassandra? You’ve been playing hide the dragon with her for months.”

“Hide the dragon?” I sputter.

Rowan hands me a beer. “Don’t encourage her.” As if it’s my fault he married a crazy woman.

I sip on my beer as I figure out a way to formulate my question.

“There’s no need to ask. I’ll tell you everything,” Ashlyn says and dives in. She explains how Cassandra moved into Elizabeth’s old apartment as she’s now working full-time atElectric Vibes.Apparently, the move didn’t go as planned since she ended up in the emergency room.
