“Get off of him,” Devon said through clenched teeth.

There was no explaining why I listened, but I scrambled as quickly as I could trying to ignore how delicate my feet felt on the gravel. The wolfsbane made heeling hard and it made the strength and extra senses in me erratic and dumb. I really did feel human.

“Dev, I didn’t think about shoes. Or well Sarah didn’t and Kiara is struggling with the gravel here. The cuts on her feet-“

He was cut off again, but I looked down at my feet and realized that indeed that the cuts might actually have been my problem. I’d been cleaned up and felt so much better that I’d forgotten about the cuts that I’d somehow gotten in my attempt to flee my captors. Hell, I’d nearly forgotten my ribs were sore and slowly healing. This place was a welcome distraction, or maybe it was him.

I shouldn’t have liked the possessive way he saw me, but something in me wanted this.

“Touch her ass again and I will rip off your fucking hands,” Devon said.

I turned from my feet and looked up at Devon. Maybe my libido liked the possessive male, but I didn’t like the way he thought he owned me as a female. So I did what I did best and with him and lost my mind.

“That was really rude. He wasn’t grabbing my ass. He was helping me out.”

Devon took a step closer and there wasn’t enough air in this entire forest for me at the moment. I couldn’t not smell him and I couldn’t understand why. Why was I so much more sensitive to him? I leaned in and tried to smell Colton. He was fine, but then I leaned back and smelled Devon.

“Why are you smelling us?”

I wrinkled my nose.

“I can’t figure it out. No offense Colt but he just smells so different.”

I wasn’t about to say musk and sex and something sweet that made my mouth water. Because it made me seem desperate.

“Right. Okay. I’m going to chalk that up to the wolfsbane,” said Devon.

I glanced back up at Devon, ignoring Colton. There was red winding from his chest to his neck. A vein was popping out of his arms that ran up his massive biceps. I had to stop myself from reaching forward and licking him.

This was ridiculous. A giggle bubbled up inside me. Lick him? What would that do? Was that like peeing on something?

Thank goodness for Colton’s distractions.

“Dev, what is wrong? She needs a place to stay for now.”

Devon seemed to figure out how to breathe, but I swear his face was redder than before.

“Why is she calling you Colt?”

I watched the two of them grow silent and their eyes turned gold. They turned more wolf than human and I knew I was missing out on something.

“No. No. You are not cutting me out of the conversation.” I knew exactly what they were doing and it pissed me off. Never being a part of the pack and always being on the outside, this was not the way to make me like or trust them.

“You don’t get to ignore me just because I’m not part of this pack. This has been my entire life. Colt seems to think that maybe I can find a reason to stay here. But if you’re going to go around being this unwelcoming. Well fuck the fuck right the fuck off you giant fucking alpha hole.”

They both stopped their silent conversation and looked at me. A muscle at the crease of Devon’s eye twitched, but Colton had me cracking a smile as I watched his face contort like he was really trying not to laugh until he did just that, laugh. He doubled over.

“Fuck, Dev. She told you off. No one ever tells him off. Ha. Damn female. Let’s leave on that note and go have you get ready for our …” he paused and thought about it before he looked at Devon. “Our date.”

I didn’t have a chance to flinch or be surprised and question Colton, because Devon practically roared as he grabbed me up in his arms and marched off in the direction Colton and I had been heading.

CHAPTER9

Devon

Colton was a dead man.No, wait. I needed him. But fucking hell.

I couldn’t stop myself from following the flowery scent the second it invaded my senses. There was no distance that could hide her. One minute I was focused and the next there she was across the training field. One million questions ran through my mind as I threw down my opponent to the grass and took off zeroing in on her on Coltons back.
