“I couldn’t face him for the rest of my college career. I apologized, but that didn’t help kill off the embarrassment.”

“I would die.” I wipe the tears from my eyes.

“I did meet my then boyfriend because of that situation, though.” She shrugs and smiles.

“I guess it worked out, then.”

“So don’t worry. Maybe you’ll meet a guy because of this.”

I scoff and shake my head. “This store is closed for business.” I cross my arms over my body.

“There are children around. Please be mindful of the conversations you’re having,” Ellen, one of the fifth grade teachers, says.

I roll my eyes, not hiding my reaction, and look at Andrea.

“I can’t stand her,” Andrea whispers.

“That makes two of us. She’s stuck-up and thinks she’s the best at everything.”

After all of my students leave, I return to my classroom to pack up for the day and go home.

I’ve got plans for sushi and wine with my friends, and I can’t wait for girls’ night. It’s what keeps me sane and acting like an adult when I spend most of my days with seven and eight-year-olds.

My students are great, but this girl needs conversations that don’t revolve around unicorns, hide-and-seek, and math.

After my embarrassing situations with the Lundsten family, I need to just relax and forget about it all.

Not that I could quickly forget about Uncle Nate and his dimples.

“Please tell me again how you asked him if he was going to arrest you?” Dani snorts with laughter, and Avery joins her.

“Shush!” I lean forward and slap her arm, causing her salmon roll to drop from her chopsticks.

“Hey, I was gonna eat that.”

“You still can.” I point to the messy roll on her plate.

“How do I eat this mess with chopsticks?” She widens her eyes.

“Use your fork.”

“I hate eating sushi with a fork.”

“I know.” I smirk.

“People at the bakery were saying you’re looking for a rebound and chose the deputy.” Avery bites back her laughter.

“Ugh. I knew people would spin this around. Anyway…” My words trail off when something catches my eye. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

“What?” Dani’s brows furrow.

Avery looks around the restaurant.

“Nothing.” I shake my head.

I’d rather them not know who just walked in, but I’m not as inconspicuous as I thought because Dani turns around to look behind her.

“Who is that? Ohhhh…wait! Is that him? No wonder you asked if he was a stripper. His ass is definitely a stripper ass.” Her laughter booms, earning us the attention from the entire restaurant, including Mr. Hot Deputy himself.
