I sway to the beat, getting lost in the music. After they finish, we all clap some more.
“How about a few more songs?” Knox asks. As if any of us are going to turn down a performance by him.
Thinking he came just to sing a song with Sutton is one thing but knowing he’s going to give us his own show is one a whole different level of excitement.
I walk toward the beer stand and grab a fresh one as Knox talks to the band before starting. The cold liquid is heaven as I take a refreshing drink. When I return, Nate arches an eyebrow.
“Are you sure you should drink another?”
My face scrunches up as I shake my head. “I’m fine. Don’t worry, I won’t be asking you to kiss me by the end of the night.” I roll my eyes, mentioning what happened with Luke’s cousin because I wasseventeen.
It’s one story I’ll never live down. It’ll be my wedding day and one of my friends will be sharing it with my family and friends, all of them laughing and stealing my drinks but by then I’ll only be asking my husband to kiss me—sober or drunk.
“That’s not… Never mind.” Nate breaks my off-rail thoughts by speaking.
“Right.” I wave him off and join Dani, wrapping my arm around her shoulder and swaying to the music.
“What’s going on?” she asks as quietly as possible.
“Just having fun.” I smile.
“And with the hunky deputy?” Her eyebrow lifts in a perfect arch, imitating a Southern accent. She thinks she’s good at it, but usually it comes out as a cross between a terrible Southern and British accent.
I chuckle and shake my head. “Nothing.”
“Right, I saw you dancing.”
“So you saw how he stepped away and has ignored me the rest of the afternoon?” I pinch my lips together and glare at her.
“What was that about?” She shifts on her feet, turning to face me completely.
“No idea.” I shrug. “I’m here to have fun.” I throw my hand up and whoop.
Dani laughs and joins me, both of us having our own party.
She reaches for my beer cup and takes a drink.
“Hey!” I complain. “Grab your own drink.”
She laughs and chugs my beer. “I’m too lazy to go. Besides, it’s like you don’t know me at all. It’s not the first time I steal it.”
I roll my eyes and reach for the cup, but she’s quicker than me and holds it over her head. She loves to steal my drinks, and I usually let her because by that time I have too many drinks in me.
She has a much higher tolerance than me and has never once begged a guy to kiss her, drunk or otherwise.
“I’m back, but I need tacos or pizza when we’re done,” Andrea says, chowing on chips.
“Deal.” I nod and high-five her.
The concert comes to a close soon after with Knox, Sutton, and Mason on stage. They all thank us once again for being such a great audience. Everyone is still in shock that Knox showed up, commenting at the surprise.
I link my arm with Andrea’s, and we walk away from the stage. That’s when I notice Nate isn’t around anymore.
“Where’d the deputy go?” Dani asks.
“Nate had to go.” Luke shrugs.
“Aw, shucks. I was hoping to get to know him better.” She smiles mischievously.
