“I do check in from time to time,” she said. “But again, how are you?”

“We’re fine. It was enlightening, to say the least. But again, I need to finish closing up here and get home. I don’t have all—”

“Are you looking for the others?” she asked.

“Others?”

“The par animarum,” she said. “I’m assuming you’re familiar with them all now, aren’t you? The memories must have made it clear?”

For a few long heartbeats, not a word was spoken on either end. Eventually, the man said, “You found a pair?”

“I believe I have, yes,” she said. “A Werewolf and a Witch Guardian hybrid. It seems very fresh to them. They aren’t even sure they believe the story.”

“Neither were we,” he murmured. “Are they looking for answers?”

“I think they’re looking for a way out.” Guinevere laughed. “They only met this weekend. It was a one-night stand.”

He huffed. “You’re kidding.”

“Nope,” she said. “They met, they fucked, and now, they’re bound.”

Another huff that almost resembled a laugh. “That must fucking suck.”

“Apparently so. She doesn’t seem like she’s very apt to open up. Judging by the way he looks at her, he’s at least willing to try, but I cast a little something that I hope will help.”

The man took in a deep breath and slowly blew it out. “Are you asking if we want their contact info?”

“I’m asking if I should send them your way,” she said. “Honestly, I don’t think they’re ready for the whole truth yet. I think learning gradually like you all did is best.”

Another moment of silence. “All of our hands are a little full at the moment. I don’t think we have the time to explain it all. It’d also be a lot to throw on two people who literally just met.”

“My thoughts exactly.”

“Are they safe?” he asked. “They don’tneedus right now?”

“No, I think they’re fine. I do think you-know-who has shown. The man was shot the morning after.”

“Fucking Christ, and you think they’re fine?”

“Nothing’s happened since. I think he was just trying to force them together through the bond. They might overlook a papercut, but a gunshot wound was an obvious way for him to prove their connection to each other.”

“Sneaky little fucker,” he muttered. “Yeah, you’re probably right.”

“They’re working a case together though,” she said. “Seems to be forcing their proximity. I’m sure they’ll keep in contact once they figure it out regardless.”

“Hard not to,” he said. “But could you keep an eye out on them?”

A grin spread across her lips. “Could you wire me some money for my service?”

He scoffed. “You know how important it is for all of us to come together. Paying you for your service to the entire stars damned world seems arbitrary.”

Still smiling, she gave a dramatic sigh. “I suppose that’s fair.”

“Yousuppose,” he grunted. “You’re the worst, you know that?”

“Oh, you love me.”

“I actually don’t,” he said. “But where are they at? Just so I know what to tell everyone.”
