The ball that’s throw in his direction sails right through and falls into his arms. He catches it and runs so fast. He zigzags and dodges players all over the field.
He finally makes it to the end zone and scores a final touchdown right as the clock runs out. Then he throws the ball down onto the ground and does a cutesy little dance.
“Yeah!” I call out. “That’s my man!”
Derek claps and Felicity squeals happily.
“That’s your daddy!” I tell her.
“Daddy! Daddy!” she cries, sounding giddy.
Everyone in the stands begins to cheer along with us. The entire stadium is alive with happiness.
Steve's teammates run up to congratulate him and he flashes me a thumbs up sign.
And then that's it— the game is over. He has won the Super Bowl for his team once again.
There are a bunch of reporters standing by ready to interview him. But I look up at the large screen that’s above the field and see that Steve's face appears there.
“What’s going on?” I ask Derek.
“No idea,” he says with a shrug, but I notice a little smirk on his face.
“Come on, you have to know,” I urge him.
“Hey, I’m allowed to have secrets from my little sister now and again, too, right?” he asks, throwing his hands up innocently.
“I guess that’s fair,” I agree reluctantly.
Soon, I hear Steve’s voice over the loudspeaker. I look out onto the field and see him talking into a microphone.
"Bella, are you there? Can you come out onto the field and bring our daughter?" he says, as the crowd gasps and cheers.
I look around in shock. Derek breaks me out of my spell by nudging me forward. I carry our daughter in my arms as I make my way out of the stands and down onto the field.
A few of the officials that have been standing down here help us walk onto the field and over to Steve.
"What's going on?" I ask in confusion.
He still holds the microphone.
He speaks into it so that not only I hear, but everyone else hears as well.
"Bella, I want to thank you because you've done so much for me. You've changed me into a better person. I'm no longer the man that I used to be. You gave me the most beautiful, intelligent daughter a man could ever ask for. You've turned me into a good guy, and I know that I love you and that I never want to be without you. In fact, I want to be with you and only you forever," he says, dropping down to one knee.
I gasp because now I’m quite sure what’s going to happen. I had started to have my suspicions, of course, but I hadn't dared hope they could be true. Now this is confirmation.
"Bella, since everyone is celebrating love and Valentine’s Day is almost upon us, I figured there would be no better time to ask you this question I’ve been wanting to ask you for a year now. Will you marry me?" he asks.
He holds up the hugest diamond ring I’ve ever seen and then places it on my finger.
I nod my head, afraid that I’ll start crying happy tears if I try to talk. He holds the microphone up in front of me and I manage to speak the word "yes," into it. That one little word sounds huge as it echoes all throughout the stadium.
Immediately the crowd erupts into cheers as Steve stands and kisses me. I fight back my tears once again as we kiss. He puts his arms around me and our daughter, pulling us into a hug.
I almost feel like I’m in a dream because I can’t believe how well everything has turned out. I never would have believed in a million years that my life would have turned out so great.
And yet the fact that everyone is here, and that I can actually feel Felicity’s hands squeezing my arms, means that this is really happening. It’s not like I’ll pinch myself and not feel it. I’m here feeling everything and knowing that this is my life.
