“Are you saying it’s not true?” Her eyes usually looked more hazel, but this morning they held more green. I’d never get tired of studying her features.

“I wouldn’t say that, exactly.”

“How would you describe it, then?” Long lashes fluttered against her cheeks. She was flirting with me now, baiting me into saying something sugary sweet, and I’d let her.

“How would I describe my love for you? Is that what you’re asking?”

She bit down on her bottom lip and nodded.

“I’m thinking I’d rather show you.” Two could play at her favorite game. I flipped her onto her back and hovered over her, already hard.

She spread her legs underneath me. I eased into her, more than ready to remind her who was in charge. Her legs squeezed around my waist. She was wet. So fucking wet, it made me even harder. Last night I’d taken her nice and slow, but this morning my need wouldn’t wait. I drove into her, causing her to grip my shoulders. She followed my lead, racing toward her release as we came together in a hot, desperate act.

I held back, determined to make her come first. “Come on, Devyn. Come for me, sweetheart.”

Her eyes popped open as her release washed over her.

“That’s it. Look at me. I want to watch you come undone around me.” I continued to pump into her, angling my hips to make sure I hit her sweet spot.

When her body relaxed, I let myself finish. Then I rolled to the side and pulled her on top of me, my cock still half hard inside her.

“Wow. I didn’t think it could get any better than last night,” she said.

“Don’t doubt me, Devyn. I’ve got plans for us. Big ones that involve a lot more of what we did last night and this morning.”

“I’m in.” She propped herself up and stared into my eyes, her gaze honest and intense. “Whatever you’ve got planned, I want to be there for it.”

My heart swelled, and I hoped like hell she meant it. “I’ve got a kid.”

“I noticed,” she teased. “What do I need to know about his mom?”

A wave of shame rolled over me. I didn’t regret having Graham, but I never should have been with his train wreck of a mother. “She’s out of the picture. We dated for a couple of weeks, then she showed up nine months later and told me she’d had my kid and didn’t want anything to do with either of us. I was in grad school at the time, and if it hadn’t been for Mama Mae’s help, it would have derailed me.”

“I’m so sorry. Has Graham ever met his mother?”

I shook my head. “He won’t get to, either. She overdosed a couple of years ago. I reached out to her parents to let them know they had a grandson. They send cards on his birthday, but he’s only met them once. I’m pretty much all he’s got.”

She smoothed a palm over my cheek. “He’s got me now, too. And he seems to get along well with Lou Ellen.”

“She’s been great. Mama Mae never passes up the chance to spoil him, too. It’s just…”

“What?” Her eyes softened at the edges. “You can tell me anything.”

I sucked in a deep breath, filling my lungs with the courage to tell her what scared me the most. “I grew up without a family, so I know what it’s like. Graham deserves so much better.”

“He’s so lucky to have you as his dad. I see the way he looks at you.” She put a palm on each of my cheeks and forced me to look into her eyes. “He loves you. And now you don’t have to do it by yourself. I told you I want it all with you.”

I’d dreamed about giving Graham a real family. With Devyn, my dream would be a reality. There was just one more thing holding us back.

“What about Duke?” I asked. Even though we’d fallen out, I knew how much he meant to her. He might have been a controlling dick from time to time, but he was the only stable person in her life. As much as I loved her, I wouldn’t force her to choose between us.

“He’ll have to come around.” Her voice held the confidence I wanted to hear, but I saw the flicker of doubt in her eyes. “If you want to be with me, you’re going to have to get used to getting up early. We’ve got chores to do.”

“Tell me where you want me.”

“Mmm, don’t tempt me like that. Maybe after we get chores done, we can get cleaned up together before you have to go get Graham.”

“Aren’t you going to come with me?” Now that we’d talked about being all in, I didn’t want to spend a minute without her. I’d have to figure out the job thing. Devyn was tied to Broken Bend while I had more flexibility. I’d been looking for a way out of my current job, anyway. It might take some time to find something close to her, but I was determined. We’d make it work. I wasn’t going to lose her again.
