“A man with a plan. I like it. Should we just head straight back to your place then?” Her fake sultry voice held all the innuendo it could.
B’s foot inched higher up his leg, even as he tried to shuffle out of her reach.
“I’m not sure what you were led to believe, but I’m not looking for someone to just sleep with. I’m looking for a relationship, and that means getting to know the person before anything like that.” Being gentle hadn’t worked well last time, so he’d try the direct approach with her.
Another annoying giggle. “What better way to get to know someone than naked and in bed?”
“I don’t think this is going to work out.” He didn’t end it with a fake apology this time. Evan wasn’t sorry, he was frustrated.
“Why?” She seemed genuinely confused.
Evan sighed. “I reached out to you on the app to try to get to know you. I’m just not looking for sex right now.”
Her toes grazed his dick, and it was more than he was willing to take. Her foot hadn’t even touched him in the last minute or two, but somehow she’d honed in directly on her target.
Reaching down, Evan removed her foot. “I’m not sure why you think that I’m going to change my mind, but I assure you, I’m not interested.”
He reached over and pressed the button at the end of the table, signaling to the server that he needed something. She pouted; while he couldn’t see her, he could hear her and he needed to get out of here.
“Can I help you?” the server arrived.
“Yes, please. Our date is over and I’d like to make my way out.”
“Yes, sir. Hold your hand out and I will assist you. Ma’am, I will return shortly to help you as well.”
Evan followed him out and let out a huge sigh of relief as the heavy curtain closed behind him.
“What is your name, again?” Evan asked.
“It’s Nigel, sir.”
That was unique enough to remember. How had he missed it twice? “Thank you, Nigel, for helping me out once again. I’m gonna to head up to Kayla’s office.”
“Of course.” Nigel nodded and let the curtain fall between them.
Evan took the stairs up to meet Kayla to give himself time to think. This wasn’t going well, and he was having second thoughts on doing another date at all.
“Knock, knock,” he said as he walked through Kayla’s open office door.
“Evan?” She looked down at her watch. “That was…quick.”
He gave a harsh laugh and settled into a chair. “Felt like forever.”
“Oh no.” She slid her laptop to the side and focused on him. “Was it that bad?”
“If you count someone’s foot making unwanted contact with my dick as bad, then yeah,” he lamented.
Kayla threw a hand over her mouth, and it took him a second to realize she was laughing.
“Seriously?” he asked, not as shocked as he wanted to be by her laughter.
She struggled to compose herself before talking. “I’m sorry. I guess you just caught me off guard. I’m also pretty sure I’ve never heard you say anything crass before, ever.”
Crass? What the hell had he said that was crass? “What?” he managed.
“Dick. You’ve never said it before while I was around. You’re always so proper. I guess this date really got to you.”
Well, maybe he hadn’t. It wasn’t like there were a lot of opportunities to say anything like that around her. “It was awful. I don’t know if I can do anymore.”
