Mikhail.
“Not here,” I say.
I don’t have much to bargain with; he has me exactly where he wants me.
Vulnerable.
But I’d do anything to make sure Nina isn’t involved. Fuck, it’s probably Nina he wants. I killed his brother, and now he has to deal with that loss.
He tilts his head toward the door.
I take another look at Nina, who is still sleeping peacefully. I get out of the bed slowly, hoping not to make any noise.
After I’ve grabbed a shirt, Mikhail follows me to the elevator.
I stare straight forward at the silver doors as I try to figure out how he got up here.Where the fuck is Enzo?
I click a button on the elevator that sends an alert to my men. They’ll be here in ten minutes tops.
But if I’m being completely honest, I don’t know if I have ten minutes. I don’t have a single fucking weapon on me either. Last night with Nina, I really let my guard down.
Fuck.
“What did you just click?” His voice is deep, filled with hatred toward me.
I get it. Shit, I feel that toward him right now, and he hasn’t even done anything yet.
“The parking garage,” I say, sounding annoyed. “I don’t want this shit in my house.”
The elevator doors open and four men are there to greet me.
Not my men. His.
The gun is pressed to my back now. “Go.” He pushes me forward.
As I stand in the middle of his men, I can’t help but realize he is putting me in the same position I put him in a little while ago.
Only I’m not curled up in the fetal position.
“Your biggest mistake, Giovanni?” Mikhail says while messing with his gun. “Falling in love.”
I don’t say anything because he’s right. I knew falling in love with her could be used against me. It’s my fault—my timing was shit. I should have dealt with my father before I continued whatever I was doing with Nina.
“You have to carry a target around with you. You’ll always have a weakness.”
“She’s strong.”
“Oh, no doubt. But not strong enough to get you out of the hole you’ve dug yourself.”
He walks up to me, trying to have a face-off.
What the fuck is this shit?“Why not just get this over with, no?”
“Giovanni.Spades, God, what’s the deal with that anyway?”
I furrow my brow.
“Something about being the strongest, I guess.” He laughs.
