“Okay, let me see it,” she said, reaching for my hand, and gawking at the behemoth of a ring on my finger.

The green from the ring glistened, appearing even more stunning, with the surrounding windows flooding in light.

“This,” she said with her jaw hanging open, “is absolutely stunning. Wow, West, you must’ve been planning this for a while to get something this rare on such short notice.” Lucy was ever the expert on all things luxurious and exotic.

“Something like that,” said Weston pulling me close to him. I wasn’t used to his touches in public. I still felt like I needed to keep our relationship a secret. But those times were long gone.

“And the baby?” Lucy pressed, “how far along are you?”

“Oh, I’m super early—like three weeks,” I told her.Was that even a thing? Did you know that soon?“Probably won’t be showing for a while.”

“Oh, Quinn, this is so exciting. Please tell me if I can come to your first ultrasound. Please, pretty please. I don’t want to miss something so epic for my bestie/sister-in-law.”

I looked at Weston to see if he could get me out of the situation.

“We’ll think about it. Where’s Father?” Weston said, changing the subject.

Lucy rolled her eyes. “Where do you think?”

We heard Dominic’s voice booming from behind the giant doors.

“I’d give him a minute,” said his assistant from her desk.

The elevator dinged. Drayven and Evelyn appeared and joined us outside the office.

“What is taking so long?” Asked Evelyn in her bored tone after only waiting a minute.

“Mr. Myles had an important call from the White House this morning. He’s been in back-to-back meetings ever since,” the assistant said, barely audible.

The door swung open, and Dominic motioned with his hand for us all to enter.

“Hold my calls,” he called out to his weary assistant and slammed the door.

The office seemed smaller than I last remembered. Or maybe it was the man that occupied it that seemed smaller to me.

Dominic Myles used to have an air of sophistication and restraint. These days he was all but sweating bullets. Once larger than life, frazzled, now seemed the best way to describe him.

Evelyn, Lucy, and I took the seats facing Dominic’s wide desk while Weston and Drayven stood behind us.

“I’ve called you all in today to discuss the matter of marriage and family,” said Dominic.

I looked up at Weston, and he placed a hand on my shoulder for comfort.

“We take the marriage commitment very seriously in the Myles family,” he continued. “And the last thing we need is for something to happen to either of your unions, and we lose everything. That being said, we’re doing everything by the book. My lawyers will draw up prenups for you both.”

Weston and Lucy both groaned.

“That is so unnecessary, Father,” Lucy complained.

“You sure have a way of sending your congratulations,” Weston remarked. “We’re not doing a prenup.”

“Yes, you will, and there will be no further discussion,” Dominic stated.

“My wife and I will do just fine without you meddling in the details of our marriage,” Weston retorted.

Evelyn glanced over at my giant ring when he saidwife. “Oh my…Weston, have you?”

“Eloped? Yes, we have,” he said. “So, like I said. There will be no prenup.”
