Jax grabbed the luggage and offered Muriel a tour which she enthusiastically accepted.

“What are you thinking about?” I asked Quinn when we were alone.

“You left all the decor I picked out.” She seemed surprised.

I let out a chuckle. “No need to fix something if it’s not broken.”

She picked up a vase that was on a side table. The vase was an old gift from her. It was green, the same color as her eyes. And when the sun shined most mornings, that color would reflect on the white walls.

“Where am I going to sleep?” she asked, placing it back on the table.

I know she didn’t want to get attached, but I was already losing that game. Hell, I lost it two years ago.

I took her hand and brought her to face me.

“Well, you’re going to be the new Mrs. Myles soon. I think with me, in my bed, would only be appropriate.”

“Fakemarried, Weston. And remember my condition.” She pulled her hand out of mine.

“It’s a big bed, bunny. Easy to get lost in.” I played.

“I’m serious,” she said.

“Oh, so am I. Don’t you remember how many people go through my home on a daily basis? Maids. Security. Business contacts. If any one of them senses something is off and leaks it to the press, our little ruse is over before it’s even begun.”

She put her hands on her hips. “Fine, but don’t you dare try anything, Weston.”

I raised both hands in surrender, fully planning on trying many things. We had three months, though. I’d win her over before our time was up.

Muriel and Jax returned, both chuckling and eating popcorn from my vintage popcorn cart. Clearly, they had become fast friends.

“Quite the place you’ve got here, Weston,” she said in between bites.

“Looks like you found the theater room,” said Quinn smiling.

“A girl can get used to this kind of life,” Muriel said, patting me on the back as she walked to the kitchen.

Jax handed Quinn his bucket of popcorn. “For the soon-to-be lady of the house.” He winked at her.

Jax had always been fond of Quinn and her being in my life. He told me she shined a light on all my darkness. And as cheesy as it sounded, it was true.

With Quinn in my life, the mundane seemed exciting. She brought beauty to blank spaces.

“So,” he said, “when’s the wedding?”

Quinn and I both looked at each other. We hadn’t really discussed how soon we would getmarried, but seeing as there was a fake baby announcement coming. We would need to do that pretty soon.

“How soon can you get ordained?” I joked.

Jax thought about it. “I’ll have it by morning.”

“Wait, what?” We both said in unison.

Jax strolled to the elevator without looking back.

“You heard me,” he taunted as he disappeared behind the closing doors.

Quinn laughed nervously. “He’s not serious, is he?”
