Ugh.

“So now what do we do?” she asked.

“We’ll have to come up with a plan to get you out to Seattle after this weekend.”

“What? I can’t do that! I have a shop. Mama’s doctors appoint—

“Hey, hey,” I interrupted her. “What did I say? I’m taking care of everything.”

She nodded and bit her lip. “This is insane,” she pointed a finger at me while opening the door with the other hand. “And I’m only doing this for mama.”

“I know.”

Damn. What the hell did I just get myself into.

CHAPTERNINE

QUINN

Lucy was jumpingwith excitement about signing the contract for the wedding venue. Words were coming out of her mouth, but all I could hear was white noise while I tried to wrap my brain around what I had just agreed to.

I looked around at all the faces in the room.

Sarah had taken the hint from Weston that he wasn’t interested and had turned her attention to Cohen. Someone of her stature wouldn’t actually consider someone like the vineyard’s ranch hand-slash-tour guide.

But she was definitely trying to get a rise out of Weston.

Dominic and Evelyn were distracted with the wedding selections. Bakers, chefs, and florists had all been brought in for Lucy to have her pick. No expense was to be spared.

Drayven was the ever-cool, calm, and collected groom. Always near Lucy. A total opposite to her bubbly persona.

And then there was Weston. He was unlike anyone I knew. He didn’t give a shit about most things, but he cared about me. I felt it. And it scared me to my core.

The last time I let my guard down around him, I learned quickly that he was the kind of man that needed to prove himself to his father, regardless of what it meant for his personal life. The accolades, the hustle, the crowd cheering. That’s what he was after. Weston was not husband material, a good time—maybe—but definitely not husband material.

My phone buzzed, bringing me back to myself. It was a text from Abigail.

Abigail:Hello, sugar. I just wanted to reach out and let you know your mama isn’t doing too well. I took her to see Dr. Morgan because she seemed a little out of it when I stopped by the shop. She’s being taken care of. Hugs & kisses, Abi

My heart instantly sank as I realized that I hadn’t checked on mama since last night. I dialed Abigail right away.

Weston noticed my anxious movements and walked in my direction.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

“It’s my mama.” I got out while the phone rang. Abi finally picked up.

“She’s going to be ok, darlin’. Dr. Morgan is putting her on a new medication that should help.”

“Abi, thank you so much for being there. I’ll get home as soon as I can. Please make sure somebody is with her until I do.” I was relieved to know my mama wasn’t alone.

“We take care of our own, Quinn. Jerri will be by later and stay the night with her if need be. She’ll make sure she eats and takes her meds.”

“You both are angels,” I said with tears welling in my eyes.

“Now, go take care of your maid of honor duties. Muriel tells me there’s a dashing billionaire that’s after you. Better go make sure he knows you’re worth, love.”

I looked at Weston. His brows were furrowed, waiting to hear what was wrong.
