He had never called her by her name when they were intimate, and she had the feeling he only did so now because he was planning for this to be the last time. She could just feel it in the air around them.

“Oh, I plan to, Conrad.”

He pushed his hands into her hair, jostling the pins she’d used to hold it in the Gibson Girl hairstyle and then his big hand rubbed against the back of her head as he pulled her face toward his. Their lips met and their kiss was deep and intense as she straddled him. She felt the ridge of his erection between her legs and she shifted her hips back and forth to ride it.

He felt so good as his big fingers moved over her intimate flesh. He shifted under her. His hands on her waist lifting her and then his mouth found her breast, suckled at her nipple as he positioned her so that his cock was poised to enter her. She put her hands on his shoulders, looking down at him. His head at her breast, his cock at her entrance, his scared and beautiful body underneath her.

She couldn’t breathe from want. Both the physical desire for him and the emotional craving. But then his hands moved to her butt, one finger running along her crack, making her shiver and forget about everything but getting him inside her.

Slowly she lowered herself on him until he was fully seated in her body. He was so big that it always took her a moment to adjust to having him inside her. He lifted his head from her breast and their eyes met and she opened her mouth to say his name. He tangled his hand in her loose hair and drew her head to his shoulder, his mouth finding that spot where the base of her neck met her shoulder and then sucking on her skin as he moved underneath. He drove himself up into her and she moved on him. He held her to him, and they felt like one as they found their rhythm.

She felt her climax building and wanted to prolong it, but it felt too good.Hefelt too good as he moved faster and faster under her and then rolled them over so she was underneath him. Their eyes met and she wrapped her arms and legs around him as he drove even deeper, and she came. Shivers wracked her body and stars danced around her as she cried out his name. He drove into her a few more times before he emptied himself in her and called her name too.

He held his weight off her as he lowered his head, resting it against her breast as the sweat dried on their bodies. She put her arms around him and whispered in her mind the truth that she was no longer denying to herself.

I love you.

She had never thought until this moment that love couldn’t make everything okay.

Conrad pushed himself to his feet and offered his hand to Indy. He’d been surprised when she’d ripped his shirt off but he’d liked it. She suited him on even levels that he hadn’t revealed to her. She chewed her lower lip as she gathered her clothes off the floor. “Are you staying?”

“Yes.”

He had promised himself tonight and he was going to take it. “I could use a shower. Want to join me?”

“How about if we share a bath?” she asked. There was almost a fragility to her as she stood there clutching her dress to her chest.

He didn’t remember taking it from her body. Just that need to get her naked in his arms.

“Okay. Let’s do it.”

She walked into her bedroom and tossed her clothes to the floor as she continued to the bathroom; he tossed his near hers. He had an extra set of clothes stored in his bike. Which he’d get in the morning. He wanted this night to be just everything that day at the mansion had started out as.

That part of him that feared love and the ties that it brought made him want to leave right now. While she was in there running the bath. But that was the coward’s way out and he wasn’t one.

He also wouldn’t do that to her. When he left in the morning, she’d know that he wasn’t coming back except to fulfill his promises to Gilbert Corners. Damn, there were times when he hated himself.

It had been a long time since he had. He stood in the doorway and watched her staring at the tub that was filling with water. “My grandfather reached out to me after I left the hospital.”

She glanced over at him, her hair falling around her shoulder on one side as she stood up. “No. What happened?”

“I told him to fuck off.”

“Conrad.”

“Yeah, he died three months later. I just... I knew I was being a dick but I just wasn’t ready to forgive him at all. I didn’t know he’d die—in fact I would have put money on him being too stubborn to, but he did and...”

He wanted her to know the worst sides of him. She knew about the fight and how he’d almost killed with his fists the man who’d attacked Rory. When he crossed a line and became an asshole, he did it in a big way.

“It’s okay,” she said. “I mean for him, reaching out to you was probably enough to make him feel better about everything. He could say he tried. Which might have brought him peace when he was dying.”

“Maybe.” He didn’t care about the past except for how it was making him feel about Indy. He walked over to the tub and got in first as she turned off the taps before taking the side with the faucet.

“You’re saying goodbye, aren’t you?”

“Am I obvious?”

“Yes. I could feel it on the street. What happened to change your mind?” she asked.
