“As long as you promise to be good and leave her alone.”

“Promise. I’ll wait for her to reach out,” the repo said, trembling when he pulled himself up against the wall. Half of his attention remained on the sledgehammer, so maybe he was capable of learning.

“Good man. Don’t forget to close your truck bed. Don’t want you to lose the shoes I’ve spotted there,” Hammer said, rising to his feet and placing the head of the sledgehammer on the floor.

The guy scrambled away like the cockroach he was, and Hammer noticed that blood dripped from his hand on the way, leaving a trail of tiny spots. He wasn’t sure if Baby should be allowed back in until that was cleaned up. The repo drove off, leaving behind a cloud of dust and some bodily fluids.

Hammer snorted and walked to the kitchen to get some paper towels and disinfectant. Once he disposed of the blood, he left the sledgehammer in the guestroom he was occupying and returned to the cat house with satisfaction settling in his muscles as if he’d been given a real good blowjob.

“He’s gone,” he said, stepping inside.

Cora stood right next to Dex’s cage—something that would have been dangerous if Dex was a smarter hostage—but it didn’t seem he was about to take advantage of the situation.

“Did you kill him?” Dex asked, his eyes wide.

Cora turned so fast her ponytail whipped Dex in the face. “What? Did you?”

Hammer waved his hand. “It wasn’t necessary. But I’m surprised you didn’t get your shotgun when he followed you here,” he told Cora, whose face was turning darker.

“And what good would it do if I shot him? His buddies would have come after me.”

Hammer sighed. He couldn’t stay here to protect her forever. “It’s dealt with for now. Just think about a way to get the money and don’t borrow from those kind of fuckers again.”

She hugged herself. “The bank won’t budge, and without the treatment, Bandit would be already dead,” she said and glanced at the empty cage next to Dex’s. She straightened up, as if only now remembering something. “Baby! Is the door closed?” she asked, already rushing to the exit.

“She must be in your bedroom. The gunshot spooked her.”

Cora ran out, leaving Hammer to enjoy the pleasant buzz in his veins. He wouldn’t get peace though, because Dex pointed to his chest as if they were already back to the conversation about tattoos.

“There’s blood on you. What did you do?”

Hammer was still all warm inside from the rush of the fight and offered Dex a smile. “Broke his arm and hand. Must have sprayed me a bit.”

Dex licked his lips. “Respectfully, that’s hot.”

Hammer’s brows rose, and he straightened his posture without thinking. “You ever did anything like it?”

Dex gave him a cocky smile. “You know Iworkfor Frank, not just wash his dishes. I’m the kind of man who does any job thrown at him.”

Going by the speed with which Frank had wanted to replace Dex with Jag as the guard, Hammer doubted the truthfulness of that statement.

“Answer the question,” Hammer said, stopping just out of Dex’s reach.

Dex rolled his eyes, but not before giving Hammer’s body a long lick with the brown gaze. “Okay, so I don’t think I ever went as far as breaking someone’s bones. Unless corpses count.”

Hammer smirked, though he was flattered by the boy trying to impress him. “You should try it sometimes. Feels like a good fuck.”

He loved seeing Dex pause. The kid’s eyes glazed over as if hearing Hammer say anything remotely sexual was enough to scramble his dick-starved brain.

“Maybe once I prospect,” Dex said as if Hammer hadn’t just put that idea in his head as flattery. “Is it true a prospect has to do anything a member tells them to?”

There was clearly only onememberon his mind right now and it didn’t take a sharp mind to realize what he was on about. Confirmation would have spun Dex’s thoughts toward extensive fantasies of sexual chores, having to suck dick on command, and bend over for anyone who asked.

Or was Hammer’s own mind reflecting whatheimagined Dex’s thoughts to be?

“Depends on the club.” No need to disperse Dex’s prospecting dreams yet, as it could keep him more loyal if the issue involving Ryker escalated.

“Do you guys have communal showers at the club? Or is that just a porn thing? Because we could both use one right now…” Dex gave him a silly grin. “If I’m supposed to be staying here much longer, my clothes could use a wash too.”
