“Fuck me,” the man on the ground groaned.

“Brandon?” Bennett’s mother said with a gasp.

Bennett strolled over and grinned. “You idiot.”

Hadley blinked. “You know him?”

“I’m related to him. He’s my brother.”

“Oh.” She lifted her boot.

Bennett’s brother rose, rubbing his side and dusting himself off.

“Brandon Michael Knightley, what did you think you were doing?” Bennett’s mum snapped.

“I was just messing with Ben’s fancy car.” He rubbed the back of his neck. He was two inches shorter than Bennett, with a leaner build.

Bennett shook his head.

“I didn’t expect Wonder Woman to appear.” Brandon looked at Hadley, and his eyes widened. “She looks a bit like Wonder Woman.”

Bennett didn’t like the way his brother was looking at her. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders. “Mine.”

Hadley shot him a glare before looking back at his brother. “Sorry about that.”

“Oh, no worries,” Brandon said with a growing smile. “Nothing’s broken.”

“Bennett and Hadley need to get back to London. You, inside.” Their mother pointed toward the house. “Bennett, your father will fix whatever your brother did to your SUV. Hadley, please come back.”

Hadley smiled.

Bennett squeezed her shoulders. “Let’s go catch a bad guy.”

They slid into the Bentley while Bennett’s father opened the bonnet. She turned in her seat. “I have an important job to do as soon as we get back to the city.”

Bennett raised a brow.

“I need you to drop me at Regent Street. I have to go shopping for a dress to wear to the theatre.”

“You’re going to go shopping?”

“We have to blend in, Knightley. This isveryimportant.”

CHAPTERTEN

Bennett drove his Ferrari Roma over the Vauxhall Bridge, heading to the St. George’s Wharf to pick up Hadley.

She’d gone bloody shopping. And looked happy about it too. He shook his head. Clothes shopping was one of those necessary evils, in his opinion.

Now, if he could convince Hadley to hang around, he’d happily let her do all his shopping.

His gaze fell on the MI6 building. That place had helped form that hard shell of hers. Watching her bemused look at his parents, at a normal, loving family, had made him angry at Hadley’s own parents. How could they have a daughter as amazing as Hadley, and not shower her with affection?

Bennett shook his head. He needed to get his mind off Hadley and think about tonight.

They might actually catch whoever was masquerading as L’Orage. He frowned, turning onto the street leading to her place. So far, this investigation was just throwing up more questions.

He pulled up outside Hadley’s building, and noted a few people eyeing his sweet red Ferrari. He loved the car, but he only drove it for special occasions, since it garnered so much attention.
