Get back to work. You need to find a man.

Pfft. They’re all annoying.

The meeting finished. A man she didn’t recognize came in and whispered something to Bennett. He caught her gaze.

She waited for the room to empty. She thought it was a little dangerous for them to be in an empty room, alone, with a huge conference table a foot away.

She cleared her throat. “What’s wrong?”

“An employee didn’t turn up to work today. We can’t get in touch with him, and he’s not answering his phone.” Bennett’s face was grim.

She straightened. “Any red flags on this employee?”

Bennett gave a frustrated shake of his head. “Ajay Patel is good at his job. He’s part of the IT team. No criminal record. He worked for the Army for a bit, but it didn’t suit his creative temperament. As far as I know, the closest he’s ever come to being in trouble was at a few climate-change protests. All in all, he’s a good employee.”

“Okay, send me all his details, and I’ll get Hex on the case.”

Bennett scraped a hand through his hair. She realized now it was the thing he did when he was most frustrated.

“If he gets hurt…”

And here Bennett was, worrying about the young man first, a man who might be betraying him.

She gripped his arm and squeezed.

Then her phone rang. “It’s Hex.” She thumbed it and put it on speaker. “Hey, Hex. I’m here with Bennett, and you’re on speaker.”

“Hadley, Kitty Wentworth is on the move.”

Hadley straightened. “Where?”

“She’s heading to Shoreditch, but she’s supposed to be in a pilates class.”

Bennett’s gaze narrowed. “Ajay lives in Shoreditch.”

“Who’s Ajay?” Hex asked.

“A young Secura employee who didn’t show for work today,” Hadley told her. “No one can get in touch with him.”

“Send me his deets,” Hex said.

“I’ll bring the car around,” Bennett said. “Let’s go and see what trouble Kitty’s stirring up.”

Hadley eyed him. “Surveillance only, Knightley.”

He gave a sharp nod.

She’d need to keep an eye on him. She could feel the tension pumping off him. He’d gone into hyperaware battle mode.

“I can’t believeyou think a Bentley is a good surveillance car.”

Bennett flicked on the indicator and took a corner. “It’s a black SUV. No one will give it a second glance.”

Hadley snorted. “It’s a Bentley Bentayga, Knightley. Of course, people will look.”

“Kitty Wentworth won’t see us. She’s wealthy and a society wife. She’s not expecting anyone to be trailing her.”
