“Rough day?” she asked.

His head snapped up. “I want to strangle someone, preferably L’Orage.”

“The shipment?”

He sighed and dropped back into his chair. “Gone.” His tone pulsated with contained rage. “We almost caught them, but the fuckers caused an accident on the M25, which blocked my security team.”

“Anyone hurt?”

“Nothing major, thank God. So damn close.” He sighed. “It was a big shipment, Hadley. I needed to get it to aid workers in Syria.Fuck.”

Tension throbbed off him. He looked like he was going to snap.

She walked over to him. “We aren’t going to let him win.”

“He’s already winning. I just had MI6 yelling at me. And a reporter is sniffing around.”

She couldn’t stop herself from stroking her hand across his shoulders. They were broad, but even being strong, the crap built-up to heavy levels.

“You’re not alone, Bennett. I’m here, and Killian will bring in backup, if we need it.” She rubbed her fingers at the base of his neck. “As soon as we snag a lead, we’ll be on the trail.”

He leaned his head forward, his muscles relaxing a little. “That feels good.”

“Switch it off for five minutes.”

“I can’t. My company, my responsibility—”

“It won’t fall apart without you for five minutes.” She kneaded his shoulders and he gave a low groan.

Some of the tension bled out of him.

“How did you know my favorite chocolates?” she asked.

“That’s—”

“Classified,” she finished.

He shot her a tired smile. “Yes.”

“Well, thank you.”

He reached up and gripped one of her hands. “Come home with me tonight.”

Hadley stilled. God, she was tempted to not be alone. Good sex would provide a hell of a lot of stress relief for both of them.

But put so much more at risk.

“It’s still not a good idea,” she said.

His shoulders slumped. “I knew you’d say that.”

“Ben—”

His phone rang. He sucked in a breath. “I need to take that.”

“And I have a meeting. This fake job is a lot of work.”

He flashed her a tight smile. She couldn’t help but touch his shoulder again, then headed out.
