As soon as I set her down on the floor to grab her a diaper and her dress, she squeals and runs out the room. “Fucking hell,” I mumble as I rush out of the room after her. Her laughter fills the hallway as she runs to the front door. I take a sigh of relief as Nadia and Nelson walk through the door.
We decided to move to Georgia after we found out about Sylvie. Cami wanted to slow down and make sure that she was there for the kids. She’s holding off on making any new albums. She has still done a few shows and is even doing the Super Bowl next month. I hope she doesn’t feel sick by then. I’m so fucking proud of her, she’s super woman.
It’s part of why we decided to try again so fast, so that the kids would be closer in age and when Cami wanted to pick up more work, she could. I’m completely content staying home full time with the kids when she decides to do so. Right now, though, we’re enjoying this precious time, and I couldn’t be more thankful to have Nadia and Nelson nearby.
“Son, why is my grandbaby buck naked and running around the house?” Nadia says with a smile.
“I was just getting her dressed, and she keeps running away and squealing like a little piggy,” I say, making a lunge for Sylvie as she gives me a baby grin and runs away again.
“Come to Nana, sweetie,” she coos in her grandma’s voice. The little tyrant runs into her arms immediately. Little traitor. “Let’s go put on your Christmas princess dress!”
Nelson claps a hand over my shoulder. “How you holding up?” he asks. I sigh and smile.
“Good, keeping me on my damn toes now that she can run,” I say, and Nelson nods his head.
He’s fit in so well with the family. Never having had any children of his own, he’s easily slid into the Papa roll for Sylvie and we’re both just so happy to see Nadia enjoying retirement.
“Help me bring the presents in?” he asks, and I nod my head, following him out to their car. When there are presents filling the trunk and backseat, my mouth gapes open. “What? It’s what grandparents do!”
I shake my head but help him with the five trips it takes to and from the car to lug all the gifts in.
“Are your sister and her pack coming for Christmas?” Nelson asks. It’s been a weird adjustment with both Kelsey and I finding our people at the same time. It’s weird to not plan our schedules around each other, but it’s part of growing up.
“We always do something on New Year’s now,” I say and Nelson nods his head.
“I bet she’s got a lot going on herself.”
I let out a laugh and shake my head. “Yeah, I guess you could say that. I’m going to go check on Cami, here’s the remote.” I hand it to him, and we’ve been over how it works multiple times, so I trust I can leave him with the device.
When I crack the door open to the bedroom, I see the lights are still out so I quietly head over to the bed and place my palm on Cami’s back. “Hey, baby. How you feeling?”
“Ugh, better. I think I just need to take a shower and eat some crackers. Has Syl been crazy this morning?”
“No more than usual. Your mom and Nelson are here.”
“How much shit did they buy?”
“An exorbitant amount,” I say.
“Just imagine what next Christmas will be like,” she says, and I put my hand over her flat stomach. Wondering how I got so fucking lucky. How I have the perfect Omega wife, who’s not only unbelievably successful but so loving, and the best mother I could have asked for my children.
“It’s going to be amazing,” I say, kissing her head and rubbing the tension out of her shoulders.
“Yeah, it really will. I told Kelsey we will be there for New Year’s, but in the afternoon.’“
“When you tell her you’re pregnant again, she’s going to be so excited,” I say and Cami smiles.
“I know I’m planning on telling all the girls together.” I stroke her back lightly and smile as I think about my sister and her family.
“I’ll go get you some ginger ale and crackers. You get ready at your pace and then we can get everything started.” She nods her head and leans up and gives me a tender kiss on the lips.
As I walk down the hall, I see Nadia holding my daughter, who looks completely innocent and not like she does things to scare the absolute fuck out of me on the daily. “Look who isn’t naked,” I say, giving her a smile. She holds out her arms to me and I cradle her against my chest. She tugs on my beard and I wince.
“Mama,” she says and I sigh.
“Mommy will be out in a minute,” I say, and Nadia arches an eyebrow at me.
“Son, is everything okay?”
