What was his game? Didn’t it serve his purpose to get rid of her? What else could he possibly want with her?
Honey stared at her thoughtfully. “Seems like Kansas isn’t coming back for her. Do you think he saw us? Or has taken off on her?”
“I’m not sure,” Zander replied.
“Well, what are we doing with her?”
Yes, what were they going to do with her?
“We’re taking her with us.”
What? He couldn’t do that.
“You can’t,” she said.
“Why not?” Zander asked. “I caught you. Now, I’m going to keep you.”
“You didn’t catch me. I was already tied up.”
“Your boyfriend needs to work on his knots,” Honey said. She reached over and squeezed Keira’s right ring finger. “Can you even feel this?”
“Yes, of course.”
Barely.
“Why would you want to keep me? I’m nobody to you,” she pointed out.
“We didn’t say we were doing it out of the goodness of our hearts,” Honey told her. “Right, boss?”
Zander didn’t reply.
“Uh, right, boss? You’ve got a plan for her, I’m guessing?”
“Eli is bringing the vehicle around. Go down and send Webb up. We need to make sure she’s fit for travel. Make sure no one is around.”
Honey gave her another curious look, and she thought she saw a hint of worry in the other woman’s eyes. However, Keira knew the worry wasn’t over her. No, it seemed to be for the big, strange guy.
But she had no idea why. It wasn’t like Keira could do anything to him. Physically, he had to outweigh her by a good hundred pounds. And she wasn’t exactly fighting fit right now.
When Honey was gone, Zander slid a large knife from a scabbard strapped to his calf.
“Whoa, let’s just talk about this first. Maybe you should call Ammo back. It’s not too late to send me back to Reyes with him.”
“Reyes?” Zander asked.
“He’s the one that hired you, right? I’m sure he would be only too eager to give me to Bartolli. I’m not sure who would be worse between the two of them.”
Zander frowned slightly. “You’re putting Jacob Reyes on a par with Fergus Bartolli?” His gaze moved over her body. “Did Reyes hurt you?”
“Me? No. I just worked for him. But I’ve heard about what he and his friends do to women in their clubrooms.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, do you feel bad now? That the man who hired you is abusive and sick?” she asked. She didn’t expect him to care. She figured a paycheck was a paycheck to him.
Zander grabbed his phone, tapping something into it.
“Of course, Bartolli is into sadistic shit too,” she added.
