Well, shit. That was enough to get me semi-hard. Near her face. Close to her mouth.

Motherfucker. Austin Callaway, get a grip. You’re not a fucking teenager.

“Okay,” I croaked out.

“And I’m stripping you under your hospital gown.”

Stripping me. Okay.

“All right.” My voice was husky soft.

Tugging down the waistband of my boxers, she pushed them off in one movement. Thankfully, it was quick, or she’d have noticed I wasn’t fully … relaxed.

She swiped a hand across her brow, as if the thought caused her to break out in a sweat.

“That was fast. Do you have experience in stripping men?” I aimed for a smirk, but I found myself too enamored by the adorable loathing in her eyes.

“I hate you.”

“And I think I might love you,” I said, staring down into those beautiful hazel eyes of hers. A trait I’d been trying to ignore, but I just couldn’t anymore. She had gorgeous eyes.

“Shut up.” She blinked. “I’m leaving.”

“What about the urine sample?” I couldn’t help myself with that one.

The look on her face made me bust out in laughter.

“Are you kidding, Austin? I’ve gone way above my friend duties here. I mean, we’re barely friends. Now given the situation between our siblings, you can classify us as basically enemies. I don’t even know why I’m so nice to you.”

Her tough words were all bluster, I could tell. Because I doubted there was a mean bone in her body.

She huffed and turned toward the door, about to leave, until I blocked her path.

“Hey. Thank you.” My voice was sincere this time. No smirk. “I’m not even joking. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me.”

Even though I’d had a feeling she’d say yes this morning when I asked, I didn’t take her giving nature lightly. I was grateful.

I stepped into her, peering down at those hazel eyes, and damn it … just like that, I was fucking dead. ’Cause I wanted her.

And screw me sideways because when I wanted something, anything, anyone, it was like my ego and body and every part of me wouldn’t stop until I got what I wanted.

Which was exactly why I excelled at everything I put my mind to—because I worked hard to obtain whatever I set my eyes on.

This was different though. She was not an award, or some sort of certificate, or a prize. That hadn’t stopped me before in getting Tiffany Dinent,Hollywood’s it girl, did it? But Sydney wasn’t Tiffany.

Her eyes met mine again, and my fucking throat went dry.

What is happening to me?There was no doubt I was attracted to her but it was her over-the-top kindness that killed me. She’d driven me to the hospital—not once, but also a second time—and helped me out of my clothes and even the unthinkable—out of my boxers.

Fuck me.

She sucked in a breath before she answered, “Thank you. Now, get out of my way.” Her cheeks flushed a deep crimson color, which made me smile.

The knock on the door had us both glancing up.

“You ready?” The nurse peeked in her head from outside the door, and I stiffened.

“No!” I said a little too loudly.
